Thank you to our volunteers!

We've had a busy September, and we want to officially thank our parent volunteers who have helped with different activities, such as our school dance, Terry Fox walk and our lunch program. Your time is truly appreciated!

As always, we love having family and friends help out when they can - please contact your child's teacher or the main office if you'd like to volunteer!

Information about our September School Dance

This fun event is open to all students, however, if a student is absent on this school day, they should not attend the dance that night.

The cost to get in is $5.00/sudent, or $4.00 with a can of soup (chicken noodle, vegetable or alphaghettis) to contribute to our soup program. Students should not arrive before 6:30, and they must be picked up at 8:30 - no later! Our staff is volunteering their time and would like to go home to their families. If you would like to pick up your child earlier than 8:30, please come into the school to get them.

Once students enter the dance, they cannot leave the building until the end of the dance or a parent picks them up. Students are not allowed to go to the store during the dance. We have a canteen at the dance so students are encouraged to bring a little extra change to purchase some treats!

Parents are always welcome to help supervise the dance and help with the canteen – if you’d like to join us for a fun evening, please email heather.touchie-blakely@nbed.nb.ca and let us know!

School Messenger - are you getting our emails?

All families should have started to receive email messages (and possibly text messages) from teachers. As well, we sent out a school-wide email last week.

If you haven't seen these emails yet, please check your junk folder - we've had a few people report that they found them there.

If you don't find messages there, please contact your child's homeroom teacher and let them know you're not getting the messages.

We're using a new email system and it may take a little time to sort out any glitches - thanks for your support and patience!

Breakfast Program - volunteers needed!

Our breakfast program is very popular and is used by a large number of our students as a place to get together with friends in the morning and grab a bite to eat.  If you are able to volunteer any day from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m., we would love your assistance! Please e-mail heather.touchie-blakely@nbed.nb.ca or cindy.allain@nbed.nb.ca to indicate which day(s) of the week you are able to volunteer. Thank you!

Best Buddies!

Often times middle school students do not have the chance to interact in a social setting or may not have many friends. Best Buddies works to change that through our friendship program. Our program provides people the chance to have experiences which most people take for granted – simply enjoying the company of a good friend. We will get together at school for activities and also meet up for social events. Best Buddies encourages social inclusion and integration for students with disabilities, but we’ve opened our chapter to any student who would like to build on their friendship circle. The Peer Buddies are gaining leadership skills while the Buddies are gaining social skills. This is certainly inclusion at its best!

Best Buddies meet every two weeks from 2:30-3:45 p.m., beginning on Tuesday, October 1st for our Meet and Greet. Please make sure your child is picked up at 3:45.   For more information, please contact Mrs. Donovan at kelly.donovan2@nbed.nb.ca

Food Program Volunteer(s) needed

In order to improve our partnership with the Oromocto Food Bank, we are currently looking for a volunteer (or two) to assist with picking up/dropping off food items for our students. It shouldn't be a lot of food, just a few boxes.

This work can happen any weekday, and the pickup time is flexible. We would like to have someone start as soon as possible. We need someone to do this twice a week.

For more information, please contact Mrs. Touchie Blakely at heather.touchie-blakely@nbed.nb.ca, or call the office (357-4070).

Thanks for helping our school and students!
