Week at a Glance- January 22-26
Hello MAS Families! It was a fun and exciting week at MAS. We had a visit from MAD Science where we learned about states of matter. We also had a visit from Coach Mac and some UNB hockey players. Students learned about being our BEST- better, every, single, time.

UNB Varsity Reds Men’s Hockey Team Northside Elementary Schools Night tonight- Friday January 19th.  This is one of the most exciting nights of the year for both for our students and the Varsity Reds.  This year’s game will be broadcast live on Bell TV1 Friday Night Hockey game on Bell Channel 401. Our school section in section 6 close to UNB home bench. Families interested in attending will have to go to the Aitken Centre Box Office to pick up both your child’s free ticket and the parent ½ price ($6.00) ticket.  Although encouraged to pick up tickets today by 4pm, you may still be able to get tickets at the door this evening. Hope to see you there!

MAD Science- Your child brought home a MAD science after school science program information sheet on Thursday. The deadline to register for this program is Wednesday, January 24th. Registration is done directly with MAD Science. It is open for students in k-5 with limited space, so please do not wait to register. They will stay here after school and the scientist comes to them! K-2 is from 2-3:00pm and 3-5 is from 3-4:00pm. Please note- they also offer financial assistance, so if needed please do not hesitate to inquire.

Family Literacy Day- Next Saturday January 27th is Family Literacy Day. Family Literacy Day was developed by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 to celebrate adults and children reading and learning together, and to encourage Canadian families to spend at least 15 minutes a day enjoying a learning activity together. Family literacy focuses on parents as the means to help improve the reading and writing skills of all family members. By reading to children and engaging in fun literacy activities, parents are actively keeping their own skills sharp, while at the same time strengthening the relationship between the family. Please see the attached document for ideas on literacy activities you could do at home as a family.

Parking Lot Safety- Just a reminder to parents and for parents to remind anyone that may be picking up or dropping off your child, to please inform them of our parking lot rules. The driveway on the right hand side when facing the school is an ENTRANCE ONLY while the left hand side is the EXIT. Vehicles are not expecting cars to be coming out the entrance. Also, we do not pass cars in the front area of the school. Please be patient during drop off and pick up. There are occasions when the teacher sees that it is safe and may indicate for you to go around another vehicle. If you have any questions or it is unclear, please do not hesitate to ask.
