Weekly What's Up: September 25-29

With weather like this it’s hard to believe that fall has arrived.  It sounds like lots of families were out enjoying the lovely warm weather this weekend.

Literacy:   We are continuing to work on building our stamina during read to self time. 
This week I will continue assessing sight words and reading levels.  Once I have gathered the necessary data I will begin our guided reading sessions and students will begin bringing home books to read with you at home.  Please remember that it is normal for students to regress a bit over the summer and your child may be reading at a lower level than they were in June.  With a bit of practice they will catch up quickly.
Math:  We have been working on creating and extending repeating patterns.  Students have also been discussing the difference between off and even numbers.  We are beginning to review mental math strategies such as making 10 and doubles.  We are also reviewing numbers to 20 and the different ways we can represent them.  We’ll start working with numbers to 50 this week.
You and Your World:  We have looked at the Code of Conduct and brainstormed what we can do to demonstrate each part of the Code in our classroom.  This week we will be learning about how to prevent spreading germs.
Hot lunch orders are due on Thursday.  Please read the order forms carefully as each one has different instructions regarding payment.  Late orders and payment cannot be accepted.
If you have not paid your child’s $40.00 school supply fee, please send it in as soon as possible.  Please let me know if you need to make arrangements to pay in installments. 
Permission slips went home today for an apple picking fieldtrip.  Please send in your child’s completed slip and $4.00 by Friday, Sept. 29.
