Good afternoon parents of the fabulous 5s!
It is an exciting week in the grade 5 classroom. Students have been working hard in all areas, and have already shown a great deal of growth.
Reminders
- Homework duotangs are due on Fridays. Students should be reading 20 minutes a night.
- Hot lunch: A reminder that hot lunch money must be separated into each different vendor, with the correct amount for each order (If you are ordering Pizza and Taters/Tots, please submit two separated payments, with the correct change) As each vendor picks up their order and $, we are unable to submit one large amount. Thank you for your understanding!
Here is what we are learning…
Math: Students are learning about equations. Multiplication facts are also a big focus, and we have been developing strategies to retain these facts.
Important vocabulary: variable, equation, expression
Students should be practicing their facts at home. I have attached links below for recommended online practice sites.
French: We continue to learn how to present ourselves. Students are able to describe their physical characteristics, as well as the vocabulary related to the classroom and the school environment.
We have begun Mini Prof, where the students act as the teacher and asks their peers familiar questions. We have also toured the school, and have created a floor plan, outlining the various rooms in the building.
Students are able to discuss the date today, yesterday, and tomorrow. We will soon begin our unit on the FAMILY.
Below are the Mini Prof questions students should be able to ask and respond to independently. I will send home the new questions as we progress, and they are not required to be practiced at home. I encourage you to practice these with your child, to develop fluency.
