Our Week in Grade 1

Hi Everyone!

We are getting into the swing of things now! We had a great time yesterday with our Terry Fox Walk, walking with our buddies, teachers and the whole school!

We learned about recognizing familiar arrangements of numbers, that the amount of a group of objects doesn't change, even when we move them around! We also are beginning to talk about how to start a story and that we need a title, a character (or 2 or 3), a setting (where, when) and that we need to grab the reader's attention.

Whew that's a lot of work!

Next week we have some new sight words. an, can, go, at, am, be, did

We are going to work on representing and describing numbers up to 15, recognizing familiar arrangements of number (subitizing) and still practicing recognizing the numerals and words to 15 both forwards and backwards.

We are beginning some work on a Personal Safety Program for grade 1 students aimed at recognizing feelings, how to be safe, and other things. If you want to know more about this program, please visit the website at kidsintheknow.ca in the Parents section.

Also, our field trip to Riverview Apple Orchard is on Tuesday, October 3. We can't wait! If there are any parents that would like to meet us there, please let me know. There won't be any room on the bus but if you would like to take your own vehicle and meet us there we would love it!

I think that's all for now. Please feel free to get in touch with me at cheryll.penney@nbed.nb.ca if you have any questions or concerns.

Mrs. Penney
