Good afternoon parents of the fabulous 5s!

Here is what we are learning in the grade 5 classroom...

French: Students should now be able to discuss what they eat for breakfast, lunch, and supper. They can also express their likes and dislikes, as well as what they eat often, everyday, rarely, and what they never eat. We have begun to discuss the four food groups, and will engage in a discussion of appropriate food choices, and what we need to stay healthy.

Math: Students should now be able to multiply 2 and 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. We have also had two lessons on 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. Students need to practice their facts, as I'm finding this is what holds many students back from reaching the correct answer. This week, we will explore decimals.

A few important notes...

Report cards: Report cards went home today. I have asked students to wait until they are with a parent or guardian before opening the envelope. Students should be proud of their accomplishments, as learning a new language can be challenging. Parent teacher interview confirmation times were also sent home today (in the report card envelope) Please return the envelope and the comment form as soon as possible.

Weather: It was COLD today. The wind made it an especially chilly morning, and was worse at recess. Many students came without jackets, mitts, or hats. Please remind your child to bring proper outdoor wear, as the weather is often unpredictable.

Hot lunch: Hot lunch forms went home today. A reminder that each order must be submitted separately, with a payment for each vender (as vendors are separate and cannot make change). Thank you for your understanding!

Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Liz McCabe
