Christmas is certainly in the air and  I can sense the anticipation and excitement in the air.  As we still have two weeks left of school, it is still very important that your children get plenty of rest each night.  This will help them continue to learn, have fun and be able to self-regulate their emotions at school more easily.  Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
 
We had a very full and busy week of fun and learning.  Art Richard put on a fantastic Christmas concert at Royal  Road today and our children were front and center dancing, clapping and singing.  They were so sweet and engaged.  It definitely brought a smile to my heart.
 
Literacy:  In literacy this week, we tackled the digraphs sh, ch, th.  Ask your child what a digraph is and see if they can explain it to you.  Please continue to practice the letters and sounds as well as our sight words each day.  Sight words this week were can, see. I also began guided reading with the students this week and introduced our first reading strategy, Eagle Eye.  He tells us to look at the picture for help when we get stuck on a word we don’t know.  The children are doing a great job tracking the print with their fingers or finger lights and looking carefully at the words as they read.  I am very proud of them.
 
Numeracy:  We have been working on representing numbers from 1-10 and showing numbers in two parts.  We have also been subitizing numbers to 10.
 
You and Your World:  We continued our unit of Wants and Needs.
 
Important Information for the next few weeks:
 
1.     Monday, Dec. 11
·       This will be the beginning of our classroom food drive.  Please feel free to send in a non-perishable food item or two for our local giving project.
·       We will be performing our concert songs at  York Care Center from 10:30-11:30 am.
 
2.     Thursday, Dec. 14
·       Moco Mactaquac Christmas dinner and outdoor activities
 
3.     Friday, Dec. 15
·       Family Movie Night
 
4.     Monday, Dec. 18
·       Christmas concert – 1 pm
 
5.     Tuesday, Dec. 19
·       Gingerbread house making with grade 3 learning buddies – 1 pm  (Please send in candy for this activity prior to this date. )
 
6.     Wednesday, Dec. 20
·       Gingerbread cookies (hopefully)
