Weekly What’s Up: December 11-15, 2017
You can certainly feel the Christmas spirit in our classroom.  I’m sure that you have heard about Twinkle, our reindeer visitor from North Pole.  We’ve been practicing lots of the Christmas concert, but there’s always room for more!
If you have not sent in the $3.00 for the bus to Mactaquac on Thursday, please do so as soon as possible.  Hot lunch orders for January and the Family Movie night orders are also due back this week.
If you would like to send in a change of clothes for your child to keep at school please place the clothing in a Ziplock bag labelled with your child’s name.  Playing in the snow can often lead to wet clothing (especially socks), so a change of clothes is always a good idea.
Literacy:   Please remember to record the title of the book your child reads each night on their calendar page.  Twinkle has been writing letters to us every day and we’ve had lots of chances to write back to her.  We’re also going to work on ‘how to’ writing this week and next (how to decorate a Christmas tree, how to build a snowman, etc.)  We received a class letter from Santa.  He even sent us a surprise that we’ll be able to use for a You and Your World lesson in the spring!
Math:  This week’s numbers of the day will be 66-70.
Please continue to practice adding 10 partners and doubles with your child until they can quickly recall the answer.  They should also be able to relate the facts to subtraction (if 4+6=10 then 10-4=6).  We will continue working on measurement using non-standard units.  You can practice with your child by comparing the height/length of things around your house.  In the classroom we have practiced measuring using snap cubes, counters and units.  Look around your house for items that you could use as a measurement unit.  You can also practice estimating before your measure.
You and Your World:  We will be talking about our holiday traditions.  I will be sending home a page for you to fill out with your child about the traditions your family has.  Students will them tell the class about how they celebrate.
