Weekly What’s Up: February 26- March 2, 2018

It’s hard to believe that February is almost over.

Literacy:   Please remember to record the title of the book that your child reads each night.
No Excuses words for this week will carry over from last week: by, after, what, one and came. These are words that students should be able to read quickly and spell correctly.   This week we will have lots of reading and writing opportunities to go with our Dr. Seuss theme.
I encourage students to spend time reading and writing over the March Break.  Students could make of list of things that would like to do during the break, help with grocery lists and menu plans or write a note to a friend or family member.  Any opportunity that requires children to print and space their words and sound out unfamiliar words is a valuable opportunity.
Math:  This week’s numbers of the day will be 103-107.  Now that we are into the hundreds see if your child can come up with some new ways to represent these numbers.  You can ask them to come up with a different representation each day.  Day 105 would be a great day to practice making the number with coins.
We continue to work on selecting appropriate strategies for addition and subtraction, with students working with equations at their level.  Playing board or card games that involve adding, counting on or number recognition are great ways to work your mathematical mind over the break.
