Good afternoon parents of the fantastic 5s!

Here is what we are learning in the grade 5 classroom this week...

Literacy: Students have each written a "Small Moment" piece. We are working to focus these pieces, and eliminate "fluff" while expanding on the idea of "painting a picture" for the reader.

Math: In Math, we continue to work on creating rectangles and other shapes with the same area, but a different perimeter. We are also revisiting subtraction with regrouping, as I have noticed that many students are having difficulty in this area.

Social Science: On Thursday, we will conduct an experiment to explore friction. In Social Studies, we continue to look artefacts and why they are historically important.

Health: In Health, we will be looking at careers. Students have completed a multiple intelligence survey, and this week, students will pick a career that relates to their interests.

Other important notes...

Clothing: Please consider sending extra socks, mitts etc with your child. As the weather gets warmer, it becomes quite wet outside, even with the snow. Students often come in with wet clothing, and having something extra to change into is a quick fix. Tomorrow is "Seuss Olympics" and we will be spending extra time outside, so this would be a great opportunity to send additional clothing. Thank you!

Hockey Game: Thank you to those who have sent in the permission forms for the UNB hockey game. I have sent home a second copy with some students. Please send this in as soon as possible!

Seuss Week: There are many exciting things happening this week, including theme days. Please see Mrs. Burnett's weekly WAG for more information

Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Liz McCabe
