Week at a Glance     March 12-16, 2018                Grade ¾

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Welcome back from March Break.  I hope everyone had a safe and restful break. Thank you to everyone who donated to our food bank collection, we are no longer collecting donations at this time.

This week, students are working on a math assessment for Unit 8: Multiplication and Division, and will also meet with me to complete a Running Record to assess their current reading/comprehension level. Please talk with your child about their reading level this week.

Students will also have the chance to travel to UNB to watch a hockey game on Friday; please ensure you have made arrangement to pick up your child afterward. Students are looking forward to this fun opportunity!

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at shaneen.coes@nbed.nb.ca, or call 453-5422 to schedule a meeting.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Coes

Homework

The homework assigned is an extension of class instruction and meant for extra practice. Completed activities can be kept at home. However, if there is an activity you would like to share with me, please do so.

Reading- read aloud (even to yourself!) for 20 minutes each night. Complete the reading log each night. Remember to have it signed. Talk to your parents about what you are reading at school this week and what your current reading level is.

Word Work- Students are now working on new lists of words from the Words Their Way program; copies can be found in their Communication Bag.

Numeracy- Practice math facts each night and have someone quiz you if possible. Make your own or have a parent create a math worksheet to practice multiplication and then check using a calculator. Grade 4 students can work on multiplying 1 digit by 2 digit numbers (ex: 7 x 16). Also, all students should practice telling time at home, to the nearest minute.

Areas of Focus for March 12-16, 2018

Writing- This week, students will work on completing their independent writing piece. Students have worked with the teacher in small groups to generate a list of memoire ideas, and to create a graphic organizer to assist in their writing. Students will now write and edit their piece independently. Please talk with your child about their writing piece this week.

Word Work- We will be working on Small Group reading assignments this week, instead..

Numeracy- This week all students will begin work on their Math Assessment for Unit 8: Multiplication and Division of numbers. Students will meet with the teacher in small groups as they complete the assessment.

Social Studies- This week we continue to explore new themes in social studies. Grade 3 students will be focusing on how we can learn about the different cultures in our province. Grade 4 students are exploring the physical features, climate and vegetation of Earth.
