Weekly What’s Up: March 19-23, 2018

I think we are all looking forward to welcoming Spring this week, although the weather forecast doesn’t seem to match up with our new season.

Happy Birthday to Atticus, who celebrated on the weekend.

We will be going to York Care on Thursday, March 22 with our grade 5 buddies.  If you are available to volunteer to join us between 10:30-11:30 we would greatly appreciate it!

Hot lunch orders for April are due on Thursday.  Please send orders in separate envelops/bags with exact change and please have orders and money submitted on time.  We are not able to accept late orders.

The class has finally met our goal of 25 warm and fuzzies and has voted to have a gum day as the reward.  On Wednesday students may bring gym to chew during class. I will have gumballs available as well.

Literacy:   Please remember to record the title of the book that your child reads each night.

No Excuses words for this week will carry over from last week: but, could, day, our and who. These are words that students should be able to read quickly and spell correctly.

Math:  This week’s numbers of the day will be 112-116.

We continue to work on selecting appropriate strategies for addition and subtraction, with students working with equations at their level.  Ask your child to share their favourite strategy with you.  Playing board or card games that involve adding or number recognition are great ways to work mathematical minds.  We are also reviewing skip counting by 2s and 10s counting forwards and backwards between two numbers.

A leprechaun left us a math riddle that we had to solve to find his gold!  It took teamwork and our mathematical minds.
