E-newsletter
Good evening parents of the fabulous 5s!!

Here is what we are learning in the grade 5 classroom this week....

Health: This week, we will be discussing "changes". Tomorrow, March 20th, we will be having our changes discussion. Mr. Merrill (our Phys. Ed teacher) will be leading the boys in their discussion on hygiene and changes during puberty, and I will be leading the girls in our discussion. Just be aware that many students will come home with further questions or items of discussion that they're more comfortable discussing with a parent. Students are always very mature during this discussion, and even though there are some giggles, I've always found that students appreciate having an open forum to discuss their concerns or questions.

Literacy: In Literacy, students have completed their Small Moment stories, and will be presenting them to the class on Wednesday. We have begun our personal narratives, and students are focusing on paragraphing, as well as organization of their writing pieces. Students are now being marked cumulatively on word choice, topic sentences, paragraphing, voice and content.

Math: In Math, we will complete our study of volume, and will move onto 3D objects.

Social Science: In Science, we will be continuing our study of friction and simple machines. In Social Studies, students continue to work with Mrs. Coes on discovering new ways to learn about the past.

Important notes...

Business Expo: During the next couple of weeks, there will be a big push to complete these projects, as well as the business plans. Students will be working on their products, as well as their marketing piece and business plans. A reminder that students need to bring in any materials that I was not asked to purchase (mixing bowls, special spoons etc). Also, students need to have a specific plan (ie. a recipe, or specific steps or idea before beginning product production), as a big part of the business model is to stretch materials and use them efficiently to maximize potential earning.
Please be aware that posters/marketing signs etc may be sent home for completion if time runs short! Lets hope for no more snow days :D

Also, please tell one and all about our Business Expo on April 4th at 12:30!

Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,
Liz McCabe
