April 30 - May 4, 2018

It is a beautiful day here in our city. I hope that everyone is staying dry with all of the flooding.

In math, we continue talking about and working with subtraction strategies. At home you can practice with your child by giving them a number story (eg. Joe had 13 candies. He shared 5 with his friends. How many did he have left? Jill had some pencils, she gave 4 to her friend and now has 3. How many did she start with?) These stories echo the language we are using in the classroom. We often use counters to help.

In literacy, we just talked about compound words. Encourage your child to recognize these words in their environment and breaking apart the two words that make the new word.

We have been working very hard on our All About Books and are looking forward to seeing as many parents as possible on Monday afternoon at 1:30. I have talked to the children about parents having to work and perhaps not being able to come that afternoon. If you know that you cannot make it, please have a conversation with your child so they are not expecting you. The children will be able to present their books to other parents so, hopefully, this will help.

There will be no school on Friday, May 4 as teachers from all over the province have meetings.

Have a wonderful week!
