Good morning parents of the fabulous 5s!

My name is Maggie Estabrooks and I will be teaching the grade 5 class for the rest of the year. I am very excited to work with this group of students, I’m sure we will have fun and learn a lot before the year is over.

Here is what we're learning in the grade 5 classroom this week...

Creative Cluster: Creative clusters start this week. Every Wednesday morning for the next 5 weeks students will get to take part in an activity of their choice. Students were placed in groups today and will begin their activities tomorrow.

Literacy: Students continue to learn about writing persuasively. They are now working on a topic of their own choosing. They are also working on editing their own work with the help of checklists.

Math: In Math, we just started a new unit statistics and probability. Students will collecting data to create their own double bar graphs. As well they will learn to read the information presented in graph form.

Social Science: In Science this week, we are studying types of matter, as well as changes in matter (chemical and physical).

Important notes...

June 20th: I am still looking for names to add to the decoration committee list! I have a couple of names, but definitely need more hands to bring the graduation to life. The decorating will take place on June 20th. Please consider helping us!

Swimming: We will be going swimming again Thursday morning. Students should bring a swimsuit (worn under their clothing) in the am to save time, a towel, a plastic bag, and any under clothing needed.

Long Weekend: Just a reminder that Monday May 21st there is no school for students.

Hot Lunch: Hot lunch forms for next month went home with students today. Please return with money by next Thursday (May 24th).

Thank you! Have a good week,

Miss Estabrooks
