Hi Everyone!

My apologies for being late with this message.

The children are settling in to school nicely; getting used to new routines and new classes.

This week in math we will be working on numbers to 10 for Kindergarten and numbers to 20 for grade 1. We say the numbers both frontwards and backwards as well as identifying them. We are working on subitizing (recognizing groups of items and identifying how many there are, quickly). I use dot cards, mostly to help them "see" the groups. Also, try playing games with dice or dominoes.

In literacy we are working on stamina (being able to work on a task for longer periods of time). We have talked about how we "write" a story (for Kindergarten our stories are in our pictures). Thank you to Mrs. Carr, our literacy lead, for leading a lesson in writing. The children have lots to tell!

In You and Your World we have talked about following rules (and why), impulse control (boy that was a tough one but they rocked it) and will be working on voice volume and interrupting this week.

I hope that you have a wonderful week. If you have not yet paid your student fee, please get in touch with Mrs. Yerxa in the office. Also, a reminder to send in a change of clothes for your child to have here at school.

Mrs. Penney
