Mid-week news

Hi Everyone!

The weather is getting cooler (with the exception of today) and the children need to make sure they have enough to keep them warm in the morning but also need to be able to cool off in the afternoon with warmer temperatures. Please dress in layers to accommodate this. I had some warm kiddos last week during the warmer afternoons!

We are working on numbers to 20 for grade 1 and numbers to 10 for Kindergarten. I have introduced lots of new games to the students and they are catching on really well. They practice with partners or small groups, developing their skills as well as their independence. The children love to watch Jack Hartman on youtube. He has a number of great videos covering our math skills (subitizing to 20, counting to 20, etc). These are great ways for students to learn and to stay active.

We started working on the letter P yesterday and continued with it today. Ask your child what words they know that start with the letter P and what sound it makes to help reinforce their learning. Kindergarten students are learning letter formation in both uppercase and lowercase as well as drawing pictures and writing words that start with the letter sound. In grade 1, students draw a picture, write the words and make sentences with their words.

We have talked about interrupting, tattling, following rules and voice volume during our social skills time. The children seem to enjoy their time with Tom Cat and Tabby Cat and their adventures into different social skills.

On Thursday, we will have our Terry Fox walk at 1:00. This is a great cause and, if you can, we would love it if you can donate $2.00 to the cause.

Some have sent in their $4.00 fee for our Apple Orchard trip. Thank you. If you have not yet done so, please send in the money for this wonderful trip as soon as you can.

If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with me. I am happy to help in any way that I can.

Thank you and have a great week!
