November newsletter

Good morning parents of the FABULOUS 5s,
We are hard at work in the grade 5 classroom.  The family projects were wonderful, and I enjoyed learning about each student’s family. Halloween was also a popular topic in French class, and students learned many new vocabulary words and phrases relating to this holiday.
What are we learning?
French: We have begun a short mini unit on describing our homes. Students will learn to describe their home, as well as their dream house. There will be an at home project assigned next week, relating to students’ dream homes.
In addition, we will be discussing Remembrance Day and its related phrases and vocabulary.
Math: The Numbers unit is underway. Students have learned how to multiply 2 digit by 1 digit, 3 digit by 1 digit, and 2 digit by 2 digit numbers (N5).  We are currently working on N6: Demonstrating an understanding of division. Students are working on mastering their basic division facts, as well as long division. Students should be practicing their basic multiplication and division facts nightly! J
Mrs. Brophy, the Math lead is at MAS this month, and is working with all classes to enrich our Math lessons. In grade 5, we are currently working on estimating sums, and mental Math strategies.
Good news!
-         I am pleased to announce that ALL students in my class received 20/20 on their daily timed Math drills 3 times during the month of October!
Notes:
-         Homework: If a student is experiencing difficulty with their homework, they are welcome to bring their homework back before Friday, for extra help from the teacher.
o   Also, if a student is unable to complete their Reflex Math at home, they are welcome to come to me at recess or lunch recess, and will be permitted to complete their homework at school!
-         Hot lunch is due November 7th!
-         Book orders: Please send in all book orders by November 18th!

Thank you for your continued support!
Liz McCabe
