EMERGENCY MEASURES PROCEDURES A reminder of the EMERGENCY MEASURES PROCEDURES for our school The potential for incidents always exist and although each circumstance is different in scope and process, the following procedures are to be followed in the event of an announced emergency: Fire Drill- As instructed a by staff member, students exit the building in a single file line through the designated exit point door (as described on the school lay out map in each classroom), lights are left on, windows and doors are closed. Students immediately line up in pairs for a head count once they have reached their assigned cluster area outside. Lock Down – Students immediately report to the designated safe zone out of sight of the window in the classroom. Doors are locked and closed and everyone remains there until an all clear has been announced. Students that are not in a classroom are to report immediately to the nearest classroom. The safe word for entry is “Leprechaun”. Emergency Evacuation – Everyone exits the building as with a fire drill, and then all students walk as a group to our designated emergency site (1st is Havelock School and 2nd is BOWLARAMA). Students must remain at the site until contact with parents (or designated contact) has been made. Hold and Secure – If there is a threat in the direct vicinity, students would remain at school until the threat has been resolved. Parents would be advised to report to the school’s “Cluster Area” at the Parks Canada Martello Tower Parking lot to receive information on the circumstance Edit

Heritage Fair Research for heritage fair project topics should have begun as we will be holding our heritage fair on March 1st. This year, Heritage week is scheduled for February 13- 17 and the theme this year is "Celebrating 150 Years" of Canada. We will therefore do some intense research and development for our heritage fair projects during the week of the 13 - 17 so that we can present them in class and then host the school wide Heritage Fair . Remember that you can make arrangements through staff members to do research in the mornings and after school, or at lunch time in the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You may also want to access the local library or people that you know in the community to provide information. Typically the best projects incorporate artifacts that support the topics, so things like real pictures, tools of the time, food samples, music, clothing from the time are examples of how you can enhance your presentation. Although, power point presentations and triposter boards are helpful, they are not required supports. Edit

Anti bully initiatives for pink day As we move closer to Pink Shirt Day, that takes place in February, we will be sharing information about bullying in an effort to help us recognize bully type behaviors so that we can avoid them and contribute to a positive school environment where we all feel safe. As most of you know, Bullying can come in a lot of different forms. WE learned in the announcements earlier this week that gossip and making rumours are certainly hurtful and cowardly acts of bullying. Some bullying is face to face bullying The person being bullied knows that it is happening and knows who the bully is. A different kind of bullying, called behind the back bullying, is harder to recognize. The person being bullied might not even know that it’s happening or who is doing the bullying. Some examples of behind the back bullying include the gossip and rumors but also the use of mean jokes. Bullying can happen at school or away from school. Some people use the computer or cell phones or other technology to bully and they do things to be hurtful and often cover their behavior with comments such as "I was only kidding or joking". They may even take pictures or videos of you and try to share them. If you laugh and encourage the activity or participate in this type of activity, you are very much a part of the problem and will suffer the same naturally occurring or applied consequences that the bully does.
