Happy New Year!!!

A copy of your RES January newsletter is now avaialble on our school website.

August 11
Open House, PSSC elections and School supply fee

Good day,
This is Charlene Carroll, principal of Rothesay Elementary calling with a few important September items for our RES families. We trust everyone is having a relaxing and rejuvenating summer vacation with family and friends. We look forward to having all the children back with us in a few weeks.
On Thursday, August 31st at 6:00 pm we will have an Open House/ Meet the Teacher Night for all parents and students. This is an opportunity for you to meet your child's teacher to discuss curriculum and classroom expectations.
Teachers will have a power point presentation for you discussing some of the school routines, procedures and classroom expectations. Because many of you have more than one child and more than one class to visit, teachers have prepared slideshows with valuable information (which will be looping). Please introduce yourself to your child’s teacher and view the slideshow before moving on to your next child’s class. Teachers will also give information with respect to the district “Attendance Matters” initiative. You can find out more about this important initiative on the district website at http://web1.nbed.nb.ca/sites/ASD-S/Pages/Attendance-Matters.aspx
We will also have PSSC Elections that evening at 7:15 in the conference room next to the computer room for any new parents who are interested in being on our Parent School Support Committee. The PSSC is an excellent opportunity for you to become involved in helping improve our school. You would be involved in advising the Principal on education and policy issues, working with the Principal to develop and monitor the School Improvement Plan and reviewing the School Report Card results. If you are interested in being on the PSSC please contact Mrs. Carroll at the school during the week of August 28th at 847 6203.
As mentioned to families in June, our teachers will be purchasing school supplies for your child this year. Initially we thought this fee could be anywhere from 25.00-30.00 dollars. Even though our teachers have been trying to find the best deals to keep this cost low, we are finding they are going over budget. As a result of this school supply deficit our school supply fee is increasing to 35.00 per student for the 2017-2018 school year. You can pay this fee to your child’s teacher by cheque at our open house. If you feel you cannot afford this fee you are welcome to purchase school supplies for your child yourself. Please check with your child's teacher as to what supplies your child will need. All fees must be paid in full by September 11th. Families are only required to provide the following:
  • 1 package of large resealable bags( like Ziplock bags)
  • 2 boxes of Kleenex
  • Indoor sneakers, back pack and lunch bag
Please visit https://bp.nbed.nb.ca/asds/Eligibility.aspx?Page=Transportation for information regarding bus pick up and drop off times and locations based on address and grade level(s) of your children. District is currently fixing one error that indicates that upper elementary students arrive home one hour earlier than they actually do for one bus. (A reminder that our school day begins for all students at 8:15 with K-2 students being dismissed at 1:40 and grades 3-5 students dismissed at 2:40.)
Thank you and we look forward to meeting you and your children on August 31st at 6pm at our open house!
Yours in education
 Charlene Carroll

Wellness Survey and Home and School

Good Day this is Rothesay Elementary with a few reminders on Monday January 16th
1.The January Home & School newsletter has been posted to the RES Families Facebook page.  Please like the page to stay up to date on important Home & School information.  Our next meeting is Tuesday night, January 17th at 6:30pm.
We are in desperate need of volunteers for our safe arrival program.  Volunteering includes coming into the school a couple times a month to check messages from parents regarding why their children are not at school, and making calls home to the parents of students who did not leave a message.  This very important program cannot run without volunteers, and we currently have 5 parent volunteers trying to cover every morning.  If you are able to help out even once a month, please message us on Facebook or contact Lynn Flewwelling at lynnflewwelling@hotmail.com

2. Our School will be participating in The New Brunswick Student Wellness Survey next week. The New Brunswick Student Wellness Survey is a provincial initiative of the Department of Social Development – Wellness Branch, in partnership with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the New Brunswick Health Council . The survey gathers information from students in grades 4 and 5 and parents/guardians of students in grades K to 5. It surveys attitudes and behaviours regarding healthy eating, mental fitness, bullying, physical activity and tobacco use.
By taking the time to complete this survey, students and parents can contribute to their school’s improvement plans and student wellness activities. During the week of January 23rd, our school will be participating in this survey, as we aim to improve the health and wellness of children in our community. Your child will be bringing home the parent survey to your home shortly. Please take the time to answer the survey and return it to the school by Friday, January 27th. Grade 4 and 5 students will be completing the survey at school.
Participation by students at the time of survey administration will be voluntary and anonymous. Prior to the date of the survey, parents who do not want their child to participate can call the New Brunswick Health Council at 1-877-225-2521 and must provide the school name, student name, home room teacher’s name and grade. Please inform your child’s teacher as well if you do not want your grade 4 or 5 student to participate in this survey.

Thank you and have a great week!
