This is a message from Mrs. Blanchard, Principal at Hampton Elementary School.
REVIEW OF THIS WEEK: Our word of the week was vex means to irritate, annoy or puzzle. Thank you to all families for attending our first term Parent Teacher Interviews. Please remember to return your child’s report cards envelope signed as soon as possible. This week Grade 4 students also completed their District Numeracy Benchmark. This assessment checks how students are doing at all schools across the District in regards to the curriculum outcomes covered this far.

In our weekly Tuesday assembly we welcomed special guests Garth and Helena Miller. Garth and Helena are the race directors for the Hampton Ladies Triathlon held every June. They shared their knowledge about the sport of triathlon and also introduced a very exciting opportunity for our students – designing the medal for the event! All entries are due by Thursday next week.

Santa shuffle On Thursday we had a “Santa Shuffle” Fun Run. This was a fundraiser for the Choir who will be attending the Empty Stocking Fund on the weekend and performing in the afternoon on Saturday between 4 and 4:30pm. We raised $140 in the run fun and the staff have topped up the donation with dress down money to write a cheque for $200.

Grade 5 Program Selection (English Prime or Late French Immersion) form for students in Grade 5 should be completed and returned as soon as possible. There are no forms for French Immersion students as they have already selected their program of study.

DFS Fundraising materials have arrived and Mrs. Long worked hard on Thursday night to get these out to the classrooms in time for parent teacher. If you were unable to pick up your materials, your child will bring them home on Monday or in the event the package is too late, the classroom teacher will notify you to arrange pickup.

DOTS NB: On Friday, we will be ringing the bell for Mental Health. Committed to Excellence in kids' mental health through youth, family & community empowerment. The goal of the RING A BELL Campaign is to raise awareness and inspire youth, their families, and communities to take positive actions in support of youth mental health. Positive mental health includes: being able to cope with life's challenges and stresses, functioning well mentally, such as being able to focus while at school, being generally optimistic about life events, feeling physically healthy, getting enough sleep and feeling like you belong to your community. When you have positive mental health, you are able to handle problems and challenges more easily. This is called resilience.

DECEMBER NEWSLETTER: Our school newsletter for the month of December will be available on Wednesday on our website. If you have not given the school your e-mail address or you do not have internet access please contact your child’s teacher or our admin assistant Mrs. Long for a paper copy of the newsletter to be sent home with your child. Some important dates are listed in the newsletter so please read it carefully to be informed.
