This is a message from Mrs. Blanchard, Principal at Hampton Elementary School. Here is your weekly edition of the HES Hawk Squawk. Our word of the week was flaunt which means to wave around showily. We had a very successful Greenhouse Plant Sale where students collected over $230 for the greenhouse. I hope your families enjoy the new plants in your home.
Today we welcomed Linda Granfield, author to our school. Linda is from Toronto and visiting schools on the East Coast as part of TD Book Week. She spoke very highly of our school and our students. Her stories are about Canadians and war and she recently released a new story about the Vimy Oak. A unique connection is our town has been chosen to receive an original Vimy Oak to be planted nearby.
Thanks to our Home and School for meeting on Thursday and for continuing their work on Hot Lunches and planning the popular end of year Big Fair Day. A reminder that June hot lunch orders are due by May 20th (including payment received by the school). More information regarding Big Fair Day will be coming home on Monday!
Jump Rope for Heart pledge forms were sent home and are due back on Monday, May 15th.
The Province has notified all schools in regards to the Provincial Assessment exam schedule and they have decided to withdraw the Grade 4 Literacy, Numeracy and Science exam for this school year.
FRIDAY, MAY 19th is the Annual General Meeting for teachers in this area, as a result, schools in the Hampton and KV area are closed this day and there is no school for students.

Welcome to Doodle 4 Google Canada!
Doodle 4 Google Canada is a national contest inviting students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 to redesign the logo for the Google.ca homepage for a day.*
As Canada blows out a whole lot of candles for its 150th birthday this year, what better way to celebrate than by asking students to imagine what the next 150 years will look like? Google believes our youth hold the key to a bright future for Canada, and can't wait to see what their optimism, creativity and imagination give rise to.
The winning doodle will be featured on the Google Canada homepage for 24 hours. The winning student will also receive a $10,000 university scholarship, a Google Chromebook, and a $10,000 technology award for their current school along with a trip to the final event on June 13, 2017 https://doodles.google.ca/d4g/

Hampton Flag Rugby Info Sheet
What: Flag Rugby is a non-contact co-ed version of rugby that is designed for youth. The sport is meant to help kids develop rugby skills, while having fun and being active with their friends. Practices will start off with some drills to practice various skills, after which we will break for a healthy snack provided by the coaches, and they will finish the day off with an actual game against each other. We are offering this program for kids ages 5-12 and the only equipment that you need is clothing and footwear that they can run around in (cleats are suggested, but not necessary).
When: The program begins on Saturday, May 20th and runs until Saturday, June 24th. Practices are every Saturday morning from 10:30am-12:00pm (note the youngest group will only go to 11:30am).
Where: All practices will be happening at Hampton High School on the soccer field closest to the baseball field and tennis courts.
How: Register by emailing hamptonflagrugby@gmail.com or by visiting “Hampton Flag Rugby” on Facebook and requesting a registration form. We will send you a registration and set something up to meet with you to collect payment. The cost of this activity is only $45 a child.
