Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

Thank you for coming to our Student Led conferences yesterday. It was nice to see so many people learning together!  Thank you, as well, for supporting our Scholastic Book Fair.

Our final hot lunch order form for the year is due this week. If you are ordering online, you have until Sunday to place your order. Paper orders are due on Friday. Kindergarten families, you may notice there is no option to order on May 17th. This is because May 17th is our Kindergarten Transition Day where all our current kindergarten students stay home so that next year’s kindergarten class can attend.

Last week, Home and School sent order forms home for a chance to win 2 weekend passes for either Boxcar or Area 506. Order forms and cash are due April 26th.

That’s it for today. As always, please call us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.
Report cards will be sent home this Thursday. I have finished reading all report cards and am extremely proud of how hard our students have been working and how much they have learned! I want to thank the teachers for completing such thorough and informative reports. I also want to thank you for everything you have done to support your children’s success!
If your child is receiving a 1 or a 2 on their report card, your child’s teacher has already contacted you, or will be calling you before Thursday to discuss their report. It is very important that you know what your child knows, what they can do, and what else they need to do to receive a 3 (appropriate) in a curriculum area. Very often, a 1 or 2 does not reflect the amount of growth and improvement your child has made or how hard they are working and requires a conversation with the teacher.
On Monday, April 15th, from 8:30-10:30am, and from 4:00-7:00pm, we are holding our student led conferences. Student led conferences are designed for parents/guardians and students to come to school together so that students can show you what they have been learning this term and demonstrate their knowledge and skills. You must make an appointment for you and your child to attend student led conferences. If you haven’t already, please go to the April newsletter on our website and click to make an appointment. Please remember, that there will be as many as 4 other students and their parents/guardians in the room at the same time as you. In order to allow everyone to focus on the learning, please do everything possible not to bring younger siblings with you.
The Scholastic Bookfair will be arriving this week and will be open for purchases this Friday and during Student Led conferences.
Finally, our Home and School have a very exciting fundraiser that they are launching this week. They are selling tickets on a chance to win weekend passes to either the Boxcar Country Festival, or Area 506 Festival. Information and an order form will be coming home with your child today!
That’s it for today. As always, please call us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Take care!

Good morning everyone,

Happy solar eclipse day! Just a reminder that students are being dismissed early today. Buses will begin loading at 11:45am. If you are picking up your child, please be here for 12:00pm.

We had asked the District for glasses for the children and we were fortunate to receive some on Friday afternoon. If your child needs a pair of glasses to wear during the eclipse, there should be a pair in their book bag.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

I hope that you enjoyed a very Happy Easter with your families! I am attaching April’s newsletter and calendar to this email. Please take a look at the things that are happening this month.

Last Thursday, the District sent all families a memo from Acting Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health, with important information about Measles. If you missed it, please take some time to read it. We have not had any cases of measles at the school, but we have had 1 confirmed case of chicken pox. Please also continue to check your child’s head occasionally, as we have had a confirmed case of lice today.

This Thursday, our Home and School Committee is meeting at the school at 5:30pm.

Next Monday, April 8th, all schools are having an early dismissal because of the solar eclipse. Our students will be dismissed at 11:45am.

That’s it for today. As always, please call us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Take care!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail. Happy last full day of winter! Spring arrives tonight and we couldn’t be happier! Even though the calendar says Spring, it can still be cold and very wet out on the playground and in the woods. Please continue to dress your children appropriately for the temperatures, and please send in extra socks and we have had many pairs of wet little feet after outdoor play!
We are getting very excited to see our grade 2 choir perform the National Anthem on Friday evening at TD Station. Thank you to everyone who ordered tickets to support our students! Almost 200 of you are coming to cheer on our choir (and the Sea Dogs of course!). Your tickets will be sent home tomorrow.
A reminder that there is no school for students next Monday, March 25th, as teachers will be reviewing student assessment data, and starting to write second term report cards. Report cards will be sent home on April 11th.
That’s it for today. As always, please call us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing many of you on Friday night! Take care!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

I am attaching the March newsletter and calendar to this email. Please take some time to read what will be happening this month.

We are thrilled that our grade 2 choir will be performing the National Anthem at the Sea Dogs game on Friday, March 22 at 7:00pm. All students were given a form to allow pre-ordering of tickets. Look in your child’s homework bag if you haven’t seen one. Tickets are $12.00 per child, and $20.00 per adult, and will be on sale until Monday, March 18th. If you interested in purchasing a ticket, but do not see a preorder form, please contact us at the school and we will ensure you get one.

We are hosting our Welcome to Kindergarten event for next year’s kindergarten students, and their parent/guardian this Thursday from 3:00-4:00pm. We currently have 75 students enrolled for kindergarten. If you know someone who should be coming to K next year, but hasn’t yet enrolled, please remind their family to contact us so they can attend the kindergarten transition events happening this year.

Finally, this Saturday is St. Patrick’s Day! We will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on Friday by wearing green. If your child owns something green, and would like to wear it on Friday, I am sure there will be many students and staff wearing many shades of green!

That’s it for today. Please call us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Take care!

February 27

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

It’s Spirit Week! Every day we have fun activities planned where students can show their school spirit.

Tomorrow is Pink Shirt Day-a day where we stand up to bullying, and celebrate kindness. On Thursday, we will be having sock hop dances in the gym. Students can wear their favourite socks to school. Friday is Pajama Day! Pajama Day is always a crowd favouritie!

Next week there is no school as it is March Break. Whether you are travelling far, or staying close to home, I hope that you are able to enjoy some time with your children on the break.

Thanks for listening! Take care!

Welcome to Kindergarten Session

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with a special message for all families of students starting kindergarten in the fall of 2024.

We are holding our Welcome to Kindergarten session on Thursday, March 14th from 3:00-4:00pm. This is an in-person, interactive event for both incoming students and their parent/guardian to enjoy together.

During this session, your child will receive a welcome to kindergarten bag with many treasures inside.  Examples of materials in the bag include play dough, scissors, and books. Kindergarten teachers will lead you through activities that you and your child will complete using the contents of the bag. Since your involvement is so critical to this session, we are asking that you please ensure all cell phones are put away for this one hour. We have found that eliminating cellphones from the classrooms allows parents to relax, enjoy and fully interact with children.

We are very excited to meet our new kindergarten students and look forward to seeing them, and you, on the 14th. Please RSVP the school at 832-6022 to confirm your attendance. Take care!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

I hope everyone enjoyed the long Family Day weekend. If you haven’t already, please send in your “I Love You More Than…” Sheet. They are due this Friday. The students are looking forward to sharing them.

Mrs. Walker has joined our staff as our new guidance teacher. Last week, she sent home random acts of kindness hearts to fill out. Please send them back so we can look at all the acts of kindness our students completed. These also will be shared.

Next week is Spirit Week! Please see our February newsletter, and/or your weekly class newsletter for information about next week.

Finally, I want to again thank everyone who helped to make Staff Appreciation Week so special for us. Your kindness is heartwarming.  Special thank you to our wonderful Home and School for organizing such a special week for us.

That’s it for today! Please contact us at the school with any questions or concerns. Take care!

February 13

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.
February is Black History month. Each week we have been learning about special Black Canadians who have made positive contributions to the world.
It’s Staff Appreciation Week! Thank you so much to our Home and School for organizing such a lovely week for us! Thank you to all the families who have contributed food, dropped off treats and sent us positive messages. It is an absolute privilege to teach your children, and we feel so fortunate to be appreciated.
For those of you who ordered pink shirts, they have arrived and will be sent home with your child.
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day! Your child may wear red, pink or whatever colour they associate with Valentine’s Day. If you send in Valentines, please ensure that you send in one for each child in the classroom. Your child’s teacher has sent home the names of their classmates.
Online registration for grade 1 French Immersion closes on Thursday. The link to register is in our February newsletter.
Friday is our 100th Day of School! We will be celebrating with many activities designed around the number 100.
Saturday is National Random Acts of Kindness Day. At school, we will be talking about how we can perform acts of kindness at school, at home and in our community. Your child will be coming home with a slip to record the random act of kindness they perform this Saturday. Returned slips will be shared and displayed at school.
Next Monday there is no school as it is Family Day. At Leatherbarrow, we celebrate all families and teach that although families are different, all families are special. In the book, “I love you more” by Emil Sher, families express their love to each other through a very special word game. Tonight, we are sending home this word game for you to write how much you love your child. Please send these back by next Friday, Feb. 23 so we can share them with your child, and your child can respond back to you using the same framework.
That’s it for today! Please contact us at the school with any questions or concerns. Take care!
