Hi everyone,
It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary with a Tuesday talk mail.
Good news! We move to the Orange phase as of midnight tonight. In school, orange doesn’t look much different than red, but it is one step closer to yellow!

As noted in the January calendar and newsletter, this is Literacy Week and we have planned some special literacy activities for the students. As a whole school activity, we are combining our love of literacy and our love of the outdoors and making our own alphabet book. Each class has been assigned 2 letters and will find or create things outside that begin with their particular letters. We will put all of their pictures together to make our own outdoor alphabet book. You may want to ask your child what letters of the alphabet their class is doing.

Today is Tuesday Teams Day, and students will virtually share a literacy activity with a buddy class within the building. Tomorrow, Wednesday, we are asking students and staff to dress as a favourite character from a book. We hope to see most people wearing something that represents a literary character. On Thursday, we are having a special literacy picnic/beach party where students will read individually, and in partners, within their class bubbles. I am providing Bear paws, water and 100% juice juice boxes for the picnic/beach party so when students are reading silently, they can imagine they are really on a beach or at a picnic and having a special snack. If you do not wish your child to have a bear paw or a juice box, please let your child’s teacher know. On Friday, we are looking forward to having some of you as virtual guest readers. If you want to do a virtual reading of a storybook for your child’s class, please contact your child’s teacher.

Please continue to monitor your children for symptoms at home, and please do not send students to school if they are experiencing symptoms.

That’s it for today. Thanks for listening. Please contact us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful day!

KINDERGARTEN 2021 2022 TALK MAIL

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary with a talk mail for families of students registered for kindergarten 2021-2022.

Due to the current Orange phase, all EYE-DA appointments scheduled for this month have been postponed. They will be rescheduled when Public Health advises it is safe to conduct them.

Also, it has been decided that there will not be any Welcome to Kindergarten sessions in our schools this winter.  We have put together a Kick Off to Kindergarten PowerPoint for you that can be found at the address below:

https://youtu.be/ZrOuORDpDWA

It has yet to be determined, if we will be able to do sessions in the spring for Kindergarten Orientation Day.   We will continue to communicate with you as information becomes available.

Please contact us at the school if you have any questions or concerns.  Thank you. Take care.

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary with a Tuesday talk mail.

As you know, we are currently in the Orange phase, and students must wear masks, all day every day, inside and outside, unless they are eating or involved in some Phys.Ed activities. If you are dropping students off in the morning, it is important to ensure that students have their masks already on when staff open your door to help them out of the vehicle. Thank you for doing this.

Staff also wear their masks all day. As you can imagine, it is incredibly challenging to teach all day wearing a mask, particularly when we are trying to teach students the sounds of another language, or the many letter sounds and word families in English. I want to acknowledge the amount of commitment and effort it continues to take to keep our children feeling safe, motivated and learning every day at school. I thank our staff for their amazing attitude and efforts. I am so proud of both the staff and students for continuing to do their best work, and truly be their best selves during every change and challenge.  Parents, I thank you for raising such kind, happy, healthy and resilient children. I also thank you for your support and encouragement. Together, we are going to get through this!

Due to the Orange Phase, photo retakes and EYE-DA appointments have been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Please continue to monitor your children for symptoms at home, and please do not send students to school if they are experiencing symptoms.

That’s it for today. Thanks for listening. Please contact us at the school if you have any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone,

Happy New Year! It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary with a Tuesday talk mail.

I am attaching the January calendar and newsletter to this email. It also can be found on our school website.  Please take a few minutes to read both.

Photo retakes will be on Friday, January 22. If you wish your child to have their photo retaken, please contact Elaine at the office and have her add your child’s name to our list.

For the next 2 weeks, the provincial government is running a ‘mask-up’ campaign that encourages students and staff to voluntarily wear their masks throughout the school day. As cases are expected to increase due to holiday activities, wearing a mask throughout the day can provide an extra layer of protection. At this point, it is not mandatory that students and staff wear their masks all day. Wearing a mask all day, both inside and outside, becomes a requirement if we move into the Orange Zone.

We have done so well keeping Covid out of our school. Hopefully, by continuing to work together and being vigilant, we will maintain a safe and healthy learning and working environment for our students and staff. Please continue to monitor your children for symptoms at home, and please do not send students to school if they are experiencing symptoms. Thanks for your support! Take care!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary with a Tuesday talk mail.

School photo proofs were sent home yesterday. Lifetouch has stamped November 20th as the deadline for order forms. Retakes have been scheduled for Wednesday, December 2.

Today, students watched, and participated in a virtual Remembrance Day Ceremony. All of this month, our children have learned the reason for, and the importance of Remembrance Day. They have read books, participated in discussions, watched videos and some have visited the cenotaph. I am sending you a link to one of the 7 minute videos that they watched in case you are interested in seeing some of the material that they viewed.

Tomorrow, there is no school as it is Remembrance Day.

Pizza was a hit last Friday. I went around and did an informal survey with the students and it was given an overwhelming 2 thumbs up! We are happy to be able to offer this hot lunch once again.

Heads up that next Friday, November 20th, there is no school for students as it is a Professional Development day for all staff in k-8 schools. I know it is over a week away, but I wanted to remind you in case you have to adjust childcare arrangements.

That’s it for today! If you have any concerns or questions, please give us a call at the school. Enjoy this beautiful weather!
