Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

I want to sincerely thank all of you who participated in our online auction! Your support was truly heartwarming! Because of you, this auction raised $10 000.00 which will go toward our inclusive learning and play initiative. A special thank you to Michelle McCaffrey for working so hard to lead this incredible fundraiser.

Today after school, we are having our Terrific Tuesday movie at 2:15. If your child is attending, please be here to pick them up at 3:30pm. Kindergarten students can be picked up in the kindergarten wing, grade 1 FI students can be picked up in Mrs. White’s room, grade 1 English can be picked up in Mrs. Davis’ and Mrs. Peters’ rooms, and grade 2 students can be picked up in the gym. If you can’t remember where to pick up your child, not to worry, we will direct you when you are here!

This is the time of year that the District begins to staff our schools. Staffing depends on enrollment, so if you know someone who has not yet registered for kindergarten, please ask them to do so, or please let us know. If you registered your child for grade 1 French Immersion, and have now changed your mind, please also let us know. The number of students we have in each program directly correlates to the number of classes we have, and to the number of teachers in the building. In conversation, some of you have indicated that you may have changed your mind since February enrollment, so we want to make sure our current numbers are accurate. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at the school.

That’s it for today! Thanks for listening! Have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

Thank you so much for coming to our student led conferences. I am hoping that you found them informative and enjoyable. It is amazing to see how much each child has learned from the beginning of the year! I know our students were very excited to be able to show you their learning.  Hopefully you left the conferences with a good understanding of not only WHAT your children are learning, but HOW they are learning every day. Most of all, I hope you left feeling proud of your children! We certainly are!

A reminder that our BIG auction is now open! All monies raised from this auction will be used to support our inclusive education and play initiative. For more information about this fundraiser, please go to the Facebook group Dr. A. T. Leatherbarrow Primary School Inclusive Education & Play Initiative.

Our PSSC meeting is tonight at 6:30pm.

Hi everyone,
Happy Spring! It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.
Hot lunch forms went home yesterday and are due on Thursday.
Home and School is meeting this Thursday night at 6:30pm.
Report cards are being sent home on Monday. If your child is not meeting curricular standards for this point in the year, you will be receiving a call from your child’s teacher before these reports are sent home. Please take this opportunity to ask any questions you may have, and to discuss how we can continue to work together to help your child to succeed.
Student led conferences will be held next Wednesday from 4:00-7:00pm, and next Thursday from 8:30-10:30am. Student led appointment preference forms were sent home yesterday and need to be returned ASAP so that we can include your scheduled appointment time in your child’s home report.
Finally, the Family and Child Education Program (FACE) is offering a series of workshops called CIRCLE OF SECURITY. In this series, parents of children birth to 6 years of age, will learn how to help your child to organize their feelings and understand what your child’s behaviour is telling you. This is a free 7 week program. It is being offered on Thursday mornings from 10:00-11:30am from April 5-May 17 at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Hall. If you are interested, please call Jenna at 432-2610.

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail. I hope that you enjoyed some time with your children over the March Break! I have been reading many March Break writing recounts and it sounds like there were many fun experiences! Unfortunately, there was also a lot of sickness and we still have several children who are sick with fevers, colds and the flu. Hopefully, we’ll be nearing the end of flu season soon.

I want to remind everyone that there is no school for students tomorrow, Wednesday, as all staff are involved in professional development.

This Friday, we will once again be serving fresh fruit to all of our students as part of our Fresh Fruit Friday initiative for the month of March.

Finally, I just want to say thank you so much for being such a wonderfully supportive community of families. You are so supportive of your children and our school, and we appreciate all of your efforts! Thank you!

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary with your Tuesday talk mail.
We are celebrating Kindness Week! Every day we will be celebrating kindness with a different learning activity. We also will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Hampton Food bank and loonies for the IWK.
Wednesday is Pink Shirt Day and Lunch with the Principal.
Thursday night we are hosting our 10th annual Family Fun Fitness night from 6:00-7:30pm. The theme of Thursday night is Be Your Best You! The same message as our school vision statement. We have been learning a lot about the Olympics and we also have told the students that being your best you means being like an Olympian-being a good sport, taking turns, trying your best, learning something new and of course, getting more fit.  Please change into indoor shoes upon entry. Coats & outdoor footwear can be hung at your child's coat hook. Door prize ballots will be available at the first station they attend.

Friday is pajama day! Students can pay their loonie to the IWK and wear their favourite pajamas and bring their favourite stuffed toy. March is nutrition month and Friday is also Fresh Fruit Friday and we will be providing fresh fruit to all students at recess.

Next week is March Break. Whether you are travelling far, or sticking closer to home, I hope that you are able to enjoy some fun time together with your child on the break.

That’s it for today. Thanks for listening!

It's Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary. Unfortunately, because of the freezing rain forecast this evening, our Family Fun fitness night has been cancelled. We are all very disappointed and know there are many children who will also be disappointed but we always have the safety of our staff and families as our priority. Thanks. We'll see the children in their pajamas tomorrow.

It’s Lisa Jardine calling with your Tuesday talk mail. We are enjoying another exciting and fun filled week at Leatherbarrow! All week long we are celebrating the Olympics and Mrs. Brenton is introducing the students to some of our favourite Olympic sports.
Tomorrow is both Valentine’s Day and the 100th day of school! Kindergarten and grade 2 students are celebrating both events tomorrow. Grade 1 has chosen to celebrate Valentine’s Day tomorrow and the 100th day on Thursday. We have many numeracy and literacy activities planned for both of these events. Thank you for helping with all of the 100th day projects! They are amazing!
It is also staff appreciation week. On behalf of the staff, I want to thank all of you who have sent in lovely notes, cards and goodies for us. It is very kind and feels wonderful to be so appreciated by such a wonderful community of families! Special thanks to our Home and School for providing our lunch today and smoothies on Friday.
