Hello everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your last Tuesday talk mail of the school year!
A video contest for kindergarten to Grade 11 students was launched today.
The contest is to encourage students to create a video promoting their respective regions while reminding New Brunswickers that Getting away is closer than you think. It is a joint initiative between the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Students from kindergarten to Grade 11 can shoot a 30-second to two-minute tourism video and submit it to the website. They have until July 25 to submit their video. Contest rules and guidelines are also available online.
Tomorrow is Fun Day. Outside activities are planned for the students from 12:15-1:45pm. All parents are welcome to attend and join in the fun.
Friday is a half day for students. Buses will begin departing at 11:00am.
Finally, I want to thank you for such a wonderful year. It has truly been a privilege to work with your children every day. To families and students who are moving on to HES, we wish you all the best! We will truly miss you and hope that your memories of us, will always be as positive as our memories will be of you!
For those of you returning in the fall, we look forward to another successful year!

Hello!
It’s Lisa Jardine with a very special email. Tonight is Art from the Heart!!!
Tonight, you will get to see the beautiful paintings your children have created!
In addition to the wonderful paintings you will see in our classroom galleries, your children have created:
-Stepping stones with many of their favourite items incorporated into them. Please take these Stepping Stones home with you tonight!
-Love You When books that were inspired by the book by Linda Kranz. These are sure to make you cry! These can also be taken home these evening.
As part of the Canada 150 celebration, we received a grant where we able to commission, artist Amy Ash, to complete a mural for us in our lobby. This will be unveiled tonight!
Speaking of murals, K families please look carefully at our living mural in our K hallway. This mural contains the self- portraits of the students in our building, and tonight, you will see that our current K children have been added.
You will also see Market Art hanging in the halls. These pieces will be delivered into the City Market to be displayed until they are auctioned off.
You will also see beautiful art displayed through our hallways.
Finally, in the gym, we have created more selfie stations where students can place themselves in some very famous artwork, and set up a pegboard where they can be creative and create art on the spot.
Please enjoy our trailer: See you tonight!

I hope that you enjoyed a wonderful long weekend! Today, our grade 2 students started their Provincial Reading Assessments. Assessments will continue all this week and will continue into next. Please help to support your children with these assessments by ensuring that they are here on time, and that they are well rested and if possible, well fed. We are excited to complete these assessments as we are proud of how well our students read and comprehend.

Hi everyone,
It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

It’s so nice to be back at school with the children! We really missed them and we are happy to settle back into a school routine.

Congratulations to Debbie Saunders who was the winner of our Mother’s Day gift basket. Thanks to everyone who bought tickets!

May is a very busy month! Grade 2 students will begin Provincial Reading Assessments next week, and all students have begun working on their art work for Art from the Heart! In terms of AFTH, we will be sending home a letter about AFTH and a BBQ order form this week. We had sent home a design sheet for the Market Art that will be displayed that night, and then moved to the City Market. We had asked for interested students to submit their plans last week but with the flooding, some may have forgotten and we want to give everyone a chance, so anyone who is still interested, please send in the plan by this Friday.

For another art project, we are looking for volunteers who would be willing to cut small tree trunks into disks, or cookies. If you are handy with a chainsaw and have time to help us, please contact us at the school, and we will give you the specifics. Many hands will make light work, and could save a hand of someone like me who should not be near a chainsaw.

Thanks to the kindness of the Hampton Rotary, all grade 2 students are receiving a bike helmet. Mrs. Brenton has done a lesson on bicycle safety and your child will be coming home with their helmet this week.

That’s it for today! Thanks for listening! Have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone,
It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

Our May newsletter is being sent out this week. Please take some time to read about all the important events happening in the month of May.

Mad Science is happening today after school.

Our PSSC meets tonight at 6:30pm.

There is no school for students this Friday, May 4th, as all teachers across the province are participating in the NBTA Council Day. There is no school for students on Monday, May 7th as teachers are attending our NBTA annual general meeting.

Under the NB Teachers Collective Agreement, this year, all Kindergarten to Grade 8 teachers are to receive two half days each year for report card preparation.  The teachers had a half day in November dedicated to preparation of their report cards. The report cards were new to everyone and this time was appreciated.  On March 15 the Kindergarten to grade 8 teachers were scheduled to have another half day to help with their preparation of the March 2018 Report Cards.  Unfortunately this was a storm closure day across the District.  As a result of this, we must adjust our school calendar so there is a half day dedicated for the June report card preparation at K-8.  This will happen on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 and on that day it will be an early dismissal day for all K to 8 students. We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause, and we hope by giving a one month notice you will be able to make the necessary arrangements.

Tickets are going fast for our awesome Mother’s Day basket! Tickets are $5.00 each, 3 for $12.00 or 6 for $20.00. If you need more tickets, please contact the school. Tickets are due back at the school on May 9th and our winner will be drawn on May 10th. For further information on the basket, please see the Home and School Facebook page or our May newsletter.

That’s it for today! Thanks for listening!

Tuesday, April 24, 2018

Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

Mad Science starts today after school. Please be here to pick up your child at 3:00pm.

This Wednesday, is a half day for students as all staff will be involved in professional learning. Buses will begin departing at 11:00am.

Teachers have asked me to remind parents that children should not be bringing toys or trading cards to school. We are not “anti-toy” per se, but we have had several incidents lately where toys have been lost, become broken or have been the root of a peer dispute. I understand it may not seem like a big issue when it is only your one child bringing 1 toy to school but when we multiply that by 227, it can be problematic and that is why we have this rule. Thank you for your cooperation.

Attention all mothers, all people who have mothers, and all people who would like to win some fabulous gifts. Our Home and School is selling tickets on a Mother’s Day basket. A few of the things in the basket include: a night’s stay at Chipman Hill suites, box seating at the Imperial for a Mama Mia performance, a $100.00 gift card for Grannan group restaurants, and $300.00 worth of Tiber River products. Students are bringing home tickets this evening and tickets are available on the Home and School Facebook page. As always, participation in any fundraising initiative is voluntary. If you do not wish to purchase any tickets, please just send them back to the school.

The Hampton Alliance for Lifelong Learning (HALL) is hosting a baby and child gear sale on this Saturday, April 28th from 8:00am until noon at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church located at 978 Main Street. This is a great opportunity for you to shop for loads of gently used baby and children’s clothing, toys, books and equipment. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

That’s it for today! Thanks for listening! Enjoy this beautiful day!
