There will be weekly after-school beginner violin lessons starting on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Havelock School (500 Young Street) from 5:15-6:00pm. All parents who are interested in having their child join the Saint John and Area School String Program are asked to attend one of the information meetings listed below:
Meeting #1: Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 7pm, Havelock School
Meeting #2: Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 7pm, Havelock School
Please bring your child to the meeting, if possible, to be measured for the correct instrument size. If you have a violin already, we would be happy to check its size and condition at the meeting. The meeting will last approximately 1 hour. (Please note that If school is cancelled due to weather on either of the meeting dates, that meeting will automatically be rescheduled to Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 7pm at Havelock School.)
Playing a stringed instrument is ideal for those students who would thrive on the extra stimulation and academic challenge. It does require a significant amount of work from the students and supervision of home practice by the parents. It not only teaches a child to play an instrument, it also builds character, self-esteem, coordination and powers of concentration. It is not recommended for students with poor work habits or who are seriously struggling with their school work.
This beginner violin program operates within Anglophone South School District and is available to students who are currently in grade 3, but we also consider requests from students at other grade levels. Students are taught in groups and are exposed to a wide variety of music (classical, fiddle, etc.). There is no charge for the actual lessons.
