6-8 Assembly HighlightsApril 08 Dear parents of middle school students at SCS,
We are reaching out to let you know that today we had our
first grade 6-8 assembly in many years. This was a chance to review middle school
rules and expectations now that Covid restrictions have been lifted. Some of
the rules for middle school students are different than those for high school
students. This can sometimes cause confusion and frustration as gr 6-8 students
are not allowed the same freedoms as their peers in high school.
Here are the main reminders covered at the assembly:
at the office if you arrive after the bell
-middle school students are
required to be signed out by a guardian and are not otherwise able to leave property
during the school day unless supervised by their teacher
-middle school students eat snacks
(10:40-11:00 am) and lunch (12:00-12:15pm) in the cafeteria. From 12:15-12:35,
students can stay in the cafeteria, go to the gym, go outside, go to the library,
or stay in the main lobby of the school.
-middle school students do not have
access to the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) internet connection at the school. Phones
at school are becoming a significant distraction and need to stay in pockets,
back packs, and out of site during instructional time unless directed by the
teacher. Students are not allowed to take pictures or videos of other students
or staff at school or on the bus. As guardians, if you need to contact your
child during the day, please call the office or wait for one of the break times
listed above.
-we are fortunate to have
partnerships with the Just Friends Food Bank and other organizations to provide
food and hygiene products for students in need. While all students have access
to these resources, it is important that we respect this and use only what we
need.
We have amazing students at SCS. Thank you for all you do to
support them and us in our work.
Sincerely,
Katherine Loughrey, Principal

Buses at SCSFebruary 18 There is a shortage of casual bus drivers in our province. If your child’s bus driver is ill and unable to drive the bus on a given day, there may not be a replacement bus driver to fill in and the bus will not run on that day. Our students know their bus driver’s name, but some students may not know what their bus number is.
ASD-W will announce any bus numbers that are not running on a particular day, not the bus driver’s name.

Fiancial Education Workshops (virtual) for High School StudentsMarch 11 The Canadian Foundation for Economic Education in partnership with the Province of New Brunswick is holding a virtual workshop designed to provide youth with a unique experience exploring concepts outlined in CFEE's 'Money and Youth' and other related resources. The workshop will focus on goals and decision making, planning for the future, banking, saving and the use of credit, budgeting to reach a goal, careers including entrepreneurship and the decision making around obtaining and paying for post-secondary education. There will be time devoted to the realities of the post COVID19 world, and a question and answer session following the workshop.
The workshop will include instructions on how to access and use CFEE and other resources easily and effectively as high school graduates deal with changes to education environments including learning at home, and the steps needed to prepare for post-secondary school and work-life realities in a changing world.
This workshop will be presented by Kevin Maynard, VP of the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education, and hosted on the Zoom videoconferencing platform. Please note the time zone, as these will be delivered from 11:00am – 12:30pm AST)
