Voice Mail From Superintendent Mr. McTimoney

Good Sunday Evening Anglophone West School District Families,

I am pleased to share the news that Health Zone 3 (Fredericton Region) is returning to the Yellow Alert Level in the Provincial Recovery Plan effective at midnight, tonight.  With 67 of 69 schools falling in Health Zone 3, that will mean all ASD-W schools will be in the Yellow Phase effective tomorrow.  John Caldwell School in Grand Falls and St. Mary's Academy in Edmundston are in Health Zone 4, which has remained in the Yellow Phase.

When in the Yellow Phase, guidelines associated with mask use and extra-curricular activities are eased.  Staff and students will return to the requirements as outlined in the school operational plans prior to moving into the Orange Phase.

It is important to note that there are less than 100 students who attend school in our district but live in a community that is a part of Health Zone 2 (Saint John Region).  This zone remains in the Orange Phase and students and staff who live in these communities must still follow the guidelines for the Orange Alert Level.  The communities that remain in the Orange Phase but are zoned for ASD-W schools include:  Big Cove (Queen's County), Canaan Forks, Codys, Coles Island, Highfield, Hunter's Home, Long Creek, Pickett's Cove, Salmon Creek, and South Canaan.  These communities mostly fall into the Cambridge-Narrows Community School catchment area, with some students also attending school in Chipman.

While the communities of Central Hampstead, Elm Hill, Pleasant Villa, Queenstown, South Oromocto Lake, and Wirral were originally in Health Zone 2 (Saint John), they have been moved to Health Zone 3 (Fredericton) in the latest edition of the State of Emergency Mandatory Order.  Students who live in these communities no longer need to follow the Orange Level parameters and can move to the Yellow Level with their classmates, effective Monday, December 7.

Although this is a step in the right direction in the overall battle against COVID-19, it is important that we continue to practice good safety measures of physical distancing, wearing our masks when required, washing our hands and keeping our hands away from our face.  All of these steps will help lead us against the spread of the virus.

Sincerely,

David McTimoney, Superintendent
