Public Health

Public Health services in New Brunswick offer a number of programs designed to support a healthy start for young children and their families.  The Healthy Families- Healthy Babies program focuses on early child development and parenting capacity; prenatally and postnatally. Prenatally, Public Health nurses and dietitians conduct intensive home visits, as well as the provision of supplements; milk tickets and vitamins, for eligible clients. Postnatally, eligible clients are visited intensively by a nurse from birth to two years. These in home services are offered within the context of family-focused and strengths-based approach.

Public Health nurses provide routine pediatric and adolescent immunization, and records are entered into a Public Health computer system that is accessible by all Public Health nurses province wide.

The Healthy Toddler Assessment is offered to all children between 18 months and 2 years, to promote healthy lifestyle practices and behaviours with the parent, early screening and assessment with the child and parent and identify appropriate services within the community, for the parent and/or child. Invitations are mailed to families, but you may call your local public health office should you wish to inquire about this or any other Public Health program.
