Weekly Messages, October 26th, 2016

Hello! Today is Wednesday, October 26th and this is Ms. McGrath calling with the weekly messages for Raiders and their families.
First of all I would like to celebrate our student attendance numbers for the month of September. As you may know, Attendance Matters is a district initiative designed to improve student attendance in our area schools. River Valley Middle School has always had great attendance and in September our attendance rate was 95.3%...that is a great number. Thank you!
Our Halloween Dance is tomorrow night from 6-8 pm. The cost is $5 and costumes are encouraged. No masks, no replica weapons, laser lights etc. Make sure you are carrying your indoor shoes with you when you arrive and please consider bringing along a non-perishable food item in support of the River Valley Food Bank.
I do have a few other housekeeping type items:
1. It is getting very windy and chilly on the north side of the building these days. As is our practice, we will be moving to the more protected side of the building for the winter months (that is the side nearest Epworth Park Road). This will begin on Monday, October 31st. Another result of the colder weather is that students must have a jacket or at least a hoodie on when outside in the morning, at lunch or at afternoon dismissal.
2. We have a huge Lost & Found that is growing every day. If you haven’t seen those new sneakers or that lunch box in a while, please ask your child to check the Lost & Found. Items will also be on display during November Parent/Teacher meetings as well and then remaining items will be donated.
3. As I have mentioned before, I would remind families that allowing your child to go to the rink after school puts them in an unsupervised situation which results in bullying or unsafe behaviour. I have had complaints from the rink about student behaviour over there. Please discourage your child from “hanging out”. They should only be at the rink if they are planning on skating or have an adult supervised activity scheduled.
Our new ASAP schedule starts next week and I will be sending a copy of the schedule home to you with next week’s message.
As always, please feel free to contact me at the school at any time at 738-6511 or trudy.mcgrath@nbed.nb.ca.
Thank you and good evening.
