Weekly Messages, December 7, 2015

Hello! Today is Monday, December 7th and this is Ms. McGrath calling with the weekly reminders for Raiders and their families.
We have only 9 days left until the break and lots of things are happening in those 9 days.
On Thursday of this week, December 10th, we have a group of students from HVHS who will be presenting a workshop about the dangers and risks of tobacco smoke. They will be working with our Gr. 7 & 8 students covering this topic which is part of our Health/Guidance curriculum.
As well, our Turkey Luncheon will be held on Thursday. We have over 200 lunches ordered so that means we have over $200 to donate to local charities and families in need. Please remember that there will be no regular cafeteria service that day so if you are not having a turkey dinner, you will have to provide your own lunch from home. Milk will be available for purchase.
Mr. Vincent is working all week to complete the “Tell Them From Me” survey with students. This annual student survey provides us with great information about how safe students feel at school and helps us understand how to create a more positive learning environment for our Raiders.
Next week, on Thursday, December 17th, we have a dance scheduled. It will run from 6-8 pm and costs $5. Santa hats and Christmas sweaters are welcome!
We will also be practicing Lockdown next week. I will send along the exact date & time in my messages next Monday.
Friday, December 18th is the last day of school before the break and it is a full day for students.
Students return to school on Tuesday, January 5th.
I would like to take a moment to remind parents about the Attendance Matters initiative. This district sponsored campaign highlights the importance of regular attendance at school. In NB, school attendance is mandatory by law and employers, youth organizations and parents should not be scheduling activities during the school day. Medical appointments or illness are, of course, valid reasons for an absence from school.
If your child misses time at school, they should be prepared to ask their teachers what they have missed and stay for after school help to complete any missed school work. A written excuse is also required.
That is all for this week! As always feel free to contact me at trudy.mcgrath@nbed.nb.ca or at 738-6511 at any time.
Thank you and good evening!
