Hello! Today is Monday, January 25th and this is Ms. McGrath calling with a few messages for Raiders and their families.
As you may know, this is a busy time of year for student projects. This year we tried to ensure that students were only working on one major project at time.
Many classes are participating in Heritage Fair and have been working on that throughout January. The School Heritage Fair is scheduled for the week of February 8th-12th, 2016 and winners from the school fair will advance to the District Heritage Fair to be held in April.
Science Fairs are also coming up and work on Science Fair projects will run throughout February (as Heritage Fair projects are completed by that time) with the School Science Fair scheduled for the week of March 14th-18th, 2016.
We are very fortunate in our facility here at RVMS and Mr. Shiels is taking advantage of our outdoor space by running a Snowshoeing unit in his Phys-Ed classes for the next few weeks. Students have been instructed about proper dress and behaviour for this activity and I have attached a copy of the guidelines to this message for your information.
Please ensure that students come to school dressed appropriately for outdoor activities but also have indoor shoes at school at this time of year.
Gr. 8 Students are getting ready for High School Registration next month and all Gr. 8 families will be receiving numerous talk-mail and e-mail reminders about this process.
We are also currently selling RVMS 2016 Hoodies to all Gr. 8 students. This hoodie, available only to Gr. 8, is signed by all Gr. 8 students and is available to order until February 5th. Students have this information but I have also attached a copy of the order form for your convenience.
Attendance letters are being sent out to all students who have been absent or tardy for more than 5 days (excused or unexcused). You may also receive a message or e-mail from your child’s homeroom teacher. This is standard practice in support of the Attendance Matters initiative. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Finally, I want to remind all families that March Break is a little later this year falling on March 7th-11th, 2016.
As always, I can be reached at trudy.mcgrath@nbed.nb.ca or, on my direct line at 738-6511.
Those are your weekly messages. Have a great day, the River Valley Way!
