Weekly Messages, April 7th, 2016

Hello! Today is Thursday, April 7th and this is Ms. McGrath calling with a few important messages for Raiders and their families.
We had our school Science Fair last week and we were very proud and amazed at the quality of the projects both in the classrooms and at the school fair level. The top projects from our school are headed to the ASD-S Science Fair tomorrow. Congratulations to Colson Webb (Gr. 6), Claire Oliver and Ethan Safford (Gr. 7) and Gerry Bidgood and Ellie Bidgood (Gr. 8). We know you will be great Raider representatives.
We have a group of student entrepreneurs who are starting a new business here at RVMS next week. Many students and staff regularly enjoy our pizza made by the Gr. 8 students on Fridays. What you may not know is that the dough for the Gr. 8 pizza is made from scratch here at the school by a dedicated team of bakers. They are now offering “take & bake” dough for sale. The dough will be available for purchase from Mon-Thurs. The cost is $5 for enough dough for two twelve inch pizzas. The dough can be used immediately or frozen for later use. If you are interested, simply send in $5 with your child. They can place your order in the Tech Lab in the morning and pick up the dough during ASAP at the end of the day. Parents can also pick up dough orders from 2:40-3:10 Mon-Thurs as long as you have ordered in the morning before 10:00.
We hope you will consider giving this a try. It is really great dough. It supports student entrepreneurial talent and all funds raised go back to the school to support student activities.
Next Tuesday, April 12th, our PSSC is proud to sponsor a Career Fair here at the school. Research tells us that it is really helpful for students to make real-world connections between their learning and their life outside of school. Over twenty community members will be at the school to talk to students about what they learned in school that helps them in their work each day. They will talk about how they chose their job, the training and experience they needed and will discuss what aspects of their job they particularly enjoy. We are very thankful to our PSSC committee for the many hours they have spent organizing this event. We encourage you to talk with your child about the event at the supper table on Tuesday evening.
Finally, we are really happy to see students starting to bike and board to school again. Starting your day with a bit of physical activity also activates your brain for learning! We did remind students today that they should always be wearing a helmet when they bring bikes or boards to school and we would appreciate reminders when they leave the house in the morning as well.
That is all for this evening. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at trudy.mcgrath@nbed.nb.ca or, on my direct line, at 738-6511.
Thank you and good evening!
