Weekly Messages, April 26th, 2016

Hello! Today is Tuesday, April 26th and this is Ms. McGrath calling with weekly messages for Raiders and their families.
Our busy, busy spring continues this week with several activities in the building.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 27th Mr. Sullivan’s class is sponsoring a dance and community donation center in support of “Project Welcome”. This project sponsors refugee families in our area as they build their new life in New Brunswick. Donations of food or gently used furniture and household items will be accepted at the school tomorrow evening from 6-8 pm. At the same time, we will have a school dance running in the gym. Cost for the dance is $5 with all proceeds donated to this worthwhile cause.
On Thursday, April 28th our entire student population is headed to the Imperial Theatre for an enrichment activity.  The performance is called Mistatim. Mistatim tells the story of the taming of a wild horse and the forging of the truest of friendships. A story of reconciliation for children and their families, Mistatim is an intercultural story that combines dance, theatre, mask, storytelling and music into one unforgettable experience. This cultural experience fits nicely as an enrichment activity for Middle School students.
Once again this year, on Friday, April 29th, our MetoWe Group is sponsoring “We Are Silent”. Students can donate $3 to be silent for the day in support of children all over the world who do not have a voice representing their needs. On another note, our MetoWe group is extremely proud to announce that we have now raised enough money to build a school in Nicaragua through Free the Children. Mme. Petit also says we may have enough to pay a teacher salary for the year. Congratulations to the many students and families and community members who have supported this fundraiser.
Looking forward to next week we have some Gr. 8 students set to write the PCAP (this was rescheduled from this week). The Pan-Canadian Assessment Program is used to measure the achievement of Gr. 8 students throughout the country and helps set curriculum goals for Provincial Education programs Canada-wide.
Thursday, May 5th & Friday, May 6th are the traditional May Council Days for teachers so there is no school for students on those dates.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at trudy.mcgrath@nbed.nb.ca or, on my direct line, at 738-6511.
Thank you and good evening!
