Gr. 6 Welcome Message 2017

Hello Raiders! This is Ms. McGrath calling from River Valley Middle School for all of our new Gr. 6 Raiders and their families.
We are very excited to welcome you into the building. Your first day as a Raider is Tuesday, September 5th. If the weather cooperates all students will be outside on the side of the building next to the baseball field. At 8:30 we will bring everyone into the Theatre where we met last June and you will meet your teachers and go upstairs with them around 9:00. If it is raining on Tuesday morning, we will proceed straight to the Theatre when you arrive.
Families are not required to stay with their child. Families are welcome to stay in the Theatre with Gr. 6 students for the introductions and question and answer session but this is not necessary.
I do have a few tips for the first week of school
#1 Don’t bring everything the first day. Make sure you have a lunch, and bring some of your supplies on Tuesday and the rest on Wednesday. You will not need gym clothes on the first day of school.
#2 Our school day runs from 8:40 to 3:10. Those are regular school hours and we ask that families do their best to schedule appointments and activities outside of those hours. As the year progresses students may have the privilege to go home early some days if they don’t want to stay for Activity Period but they may also be required to stay until 3:10 some days so please plan for this.
#3 We ask that all Gr. 6 students stay for After School Activity Period for the month of September. This means you should plan to participate in an activity after school each day and take your bus home or walk home after the 3:10.
#4 Lunch service will be available in the cafeteria beginning on Wednesday, September 6th. No preordering is required. You may want to pack a lunch for the first few days of school until you see if Chef Frank is serving something you like. Milk is available for .50 cents and a la carte items range from $2 -$5 depending on the day.
#5 Bus Lookup information is available online. If you “google” Anglophone South School District and go to their homepage there is a dropdown menu under “Busing”. Then, in the dropdown menu go to “Find Bus Route”. This takes you to new webpage. Click on “Transportation Eligibility” and enter the information for your child. This will give you the Bus #, bus stop info and scheduled pick-up and drop-off times. The District suggests you be at your bus stop at least 5 minutes before the scheduled time.
I know there is a lot of information in this e-mail and much more info to come over the next few weeks.
I usually send talkmail/e-mail messages home each week and I also always post them on our webpage at rvms.nbed.nb.ca which is a great source of information.
As well, please feel free to contact me at trudy.mcgrath@nbed.nb.ca  or on my direct line at 738-6511 if you have any questions or concerns.
Enjoy this last beautiful summer weekend! See you on Tuesday!
