This is a message from Mrs. Blanchard, Principal at Hampton Elementary School. Here is your weekly edition of the HES Hawk Squawk. I hope everyone enjoyed the break and you are energized and excited about returning to school ready for an incredible start to 2018!

HOT LUNCH: The January Hot Lunch begins on Monday. A reminder, the February hot lunch orders are due by January 20th.

SKATING: New classes will begin skating for the next 10 weeks so please begin looking for skates. The school does have some options for loaning so if you are in need, ask your teacher. Students require a properly fitting helmet, skates and something for their hands. The remaining classes will attend – January 8-March 23 (for 3 Salgado, 3/4 Kennedy, 5 Schofield and 5 Bradshaw).

WINTER PARKING LOT SAFETY: As winter weather is here, we remind parents and students to be extremely cautious in the parking lot during drop off times. Please drive slowly through the lot as we cannot ensure that this area is salted. As always, students should unload from cars only from the passenger side. Please be reminded that the front of the school is a bus zone so cars should not be stopping in front of the school for drop off. Students can be dropped off at the Hawks Nest playground, however, U TURNS are not permitted, please continue straight past the school. Thank you for your ongoing cooperation to ensure our students arrive at school safely.

BOOK SWAP: As part of National Literacy Day we will be having a book swap. Please send in your previously read novels! On January 27th all students will be able to “shop” for a new to them book.
HOME AND SCHOOL MEETING: Our Home and School Committee comprised of many dedicated volunteers will meet Thursday evening in the library. Please join them at their first meeting of the New Year to set goals for our school and students. It would be great to see a few new faces to share ideas at this meeting!

AFTERSCHOOL CLUBS: Poley Mountain skiing will begin on Thursday afterschool for those who registered as well as the Robotics program afterschool on Friday.

PARENTS OF GRADE 5 ENGLISH PRIME STUDENTS:  This year parents will register their children for French Immersion programs using an online registration form. Registration deadline is January 30, 2018. Only those registering for French Immersion programs need to register. To do this: Go to https://secure1.nbed.nb.ca/sites/fsl/Pages/default.aspx Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Register for French Immersion 2018-2019.
