Community Food Smart Program
In partnership with the Community Food Action Network - community members are able to join the program and once a month order the produce bags. If you would like to join, just drop by the school and fill out a membership form. Orders go in on the first Thursday of the month and are packed and picked up at the school on the following Wednesday. The membership fee is $10 and the produce bags cost $15. (Approx. $35 - $40 value) If you would like more information about this program contact the school.
Farm 2 School
Every Monday at noon, our Farm 2 School program offers a main course and salad bar for lunch. We prefer to know in advance if your elementary student is ordering that day. If your student would like to get any of the lunches, please fill out the form that was sent home and return to your students’ homeroom teacher. The cost is $4. 00 for each meal. Meal cards are available to all students for a cost of $20.00. This prepays 5 meals in advance, and gives them the 6th meal free. On Friday’s, we offer the High School Students, Friday Fun Food Finds – which is a salad bar and a side for $2.00. Please contact the school if you have any questions about the program. Farm to School will be starting up again on September 21st. Our meals this month are Chicken Ranch Taco's and fresh and local salad bar on the 21st, and on the 28th we'll be having pizza quesadilla's with fresh and local salad bar.
The Ecokids Club meets 2 times a month at noon hour and participate in a variety of environmental projects at the school. We do activities such as recycling, gardening, composting, hydroponics and learn about important environmental issues. Sign up sheets will be in the class this week. We are asking Middle Level and High School students who are interested in environmental issues to sign up as volunteers to assist students.
Art Club & Lego Club
Sign up sheets for Elementary students have been sent home for the Art Club and Lego Club. Both groups meet once monthly in the Art Room. Students who are signed up are not required to come to every session, but we do ask that students sign up at the beginning of Sept. and January, so we can ensure there are enough supplies for all those signed up to participate. We ask Middle Level and High School students to sign up and help out as volunteers during these clubs.
This committee is open to students in Grades 5 – 12. We meet just 4 times a year and discuss general health topics, such as healthy eating and physical activity. Students also have an opportunity to help prep and serve the Farm 2 School lunch on a rotational basis. Students, who assist with Farm 2 School, receive that days’ lunch for free. Sign up sheets will be up in the classrooms this week.
Young Naturalist Club
The Young Naturalist club has 6 outings throughout the year. We partner with Nature NB and do activities such as bird watching, snow shoeing, hiking, and other nature related activities. Most outings take place after school on Friday, which allows children to stay after school and take part, and then take late bus home. There is a fee of $15.00 to join. This fee gives them a subscription to Nature NB magazine, a welcome kit and covers the cost of our local outings. Sign up sheets will be going home for this club and will be available at school. Volunteers from Middle Level are welcome for this club as well as we explore the great outdoors.
