Gr. 8 Quebec Trip & Cabaret

Hello! This is Ms. McGrath calling with a message for Gr. 8 students and their families.

You should have received a letter from the District informing you about your child’s High School Placement for September 2017. If you have not received a letter, please let us know and we will contact the District to see what is up.

We have events scheduled for the end of the year that are specifically for our Gr. 8 students. For those families who have not had children go through RVMS before, I wanted to give you a quick synopsis of those events.

First, as you know, we have the Gr. 8 Quebec Trip which will see most of our Gr. 8 students out of the building on June 14, 15, & 16 and return on Saturday, June 17. A copy of the final itinerary will be going home with students soon.

For students attending the trip, all assignments must be completed and handed in prior to departing for Quebec. Students who have not been in regular attendance or who have multiple missing assignments risk losing their spot on the trip. We have been reminding our Gr. 8’s about this for a few weeks now.

Gr. 8 students also create a “Year-end Video” and a “Cabaret” DVD which will be available for purchase during the last week of school.

“Cabaret” is the term we use for our Gr. 8 closing event. Students come with their families to share a meal and watch the Gr. 8 video. Families then leave and the students enjoy their final “dance” at RVMS. Mr. Vincent takes pictures beginning at 5:30 and these are included in the DVD. This event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 21st from 5:30-9:00 pm. Tickets are usually $5-7 each and will go on sale in early June. Students may invite up to 4 family members. Only RVMS students, or students who have been signed in from other middle schools are welcome to stay for the dance portion.

Students often dress up for this event but that is not necessary. Most students wear a nice dress or a shirt and tie. Some wear suits or prom type dresses but this is not necessary. When in doubt about dress code violations or the appropriateness of their outfit, students often show me a picture of what they plan to wear for approval. Some students come as a couple but more often just with a group of friends which tends to be more fun for them.

If you have any questions about any of the above events, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the school.

Thank you and good evening!
