Pink Shirt Day

Pink Shirt Day is Wednesday, February 26th.  This day emphasizes the need for bystanders to assist those who are being harmed and to assist those who are doing the harming.  It builds school spirit, better citizenship and reminds us that we all need to do our part to help those in need.

In 2007 two Nova Scotia youth, David Shepherd and Travis Price and their teenage friends organized a high-school protest to wear pink in support of a Grade 9 boy who was being bullied.  So David and Travis and some others went to a discount store and bought 50 pink shirts. They sent out messages to schoolmates that night, and the next morning they brought the shirts to school in a plastic bag.  As they stood in the foyer handing out the shirts, the bullied boy walked in. His face spoke volumes. It looked like a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders, Travis recalled.

This Wednesday lets celebrate kindness, respect and positive relationships and wear a Pink Shirt.
