Good Afternoon NES Families

We are really looking forward to seeing you tonight for NES's first ever Art From the Heart event.  It will run from 6:00-7:00 and give families the chance to see the great art work our students have been creating over the past few weeks and give families a chance to create some of their own.  We would like to thank NESPA for their donations of refreshments for tonight's event as well as the art supplies the students used for their creations.

A reminder as well that Monday 19 February is Family Day and there is no school that day.

Looking forward to seeing you tonight!

Good Afternoon NES Families

This year NESPA has agreed to try to run a hot lunch program again.  As with any new initiative, it may take a little while to get the glitches worked out, so we ask for your patience as we get things up and running.

If possible, we will ask that you use the attached link to place your child’s hot lunch order.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jenna or Katlyn by email

Thank you for your support!

Good Afternoon, NES Parents

This is Miss Myers with two reminders for our families.

Last Thursday, permission slips were sent home to give consent for our students to leave school property to go on our Emergency Evacuation Drill. This is an important annual event at our school. Please ensure that your child brings his/her slip back tomorrow.  If you have lost your child’s slip please write a quick note or send your child’s teacher an email allowing them to go tomorrow morning.

Also, our NESPA Java Moose fundraiser coffee orders are due back to school on Friday, 20 October.

October 3, 2023

Good Afternoon

This is Linda Myers, principal of Norton Elementary School with some information about upcoming events.

As you know, this coming Monday, 9 October is Thanksgiving which is a holiday for everyone, and schools will be closed

Next Friday, 13 October is a professional learning opportunity for the staff and there will be no classes for students that day.

We had a good turn out for our NESPA meeting last week and our first fundraiser starts today.  Again this year, students will be given the opportunity to sell Java Moose coffee, the profits of which will be put toward school trips and other fun activities for our students.  Orders are due back to the school by Friday 20 October.  Our thanks to NESPA  and all of those families who are able to participate.

Norton Elementary School is looking for a chair for our PSSC.  This committee usually meets once each month to go over school and district governance as well as various assessments and survey results that directly effects our students.  If you might be interested in this, please reach out to me during school hours.

Registration for students who will be starting Kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year will be held next week from 10-13 October.  If you or someone you know has a child who was born in 2019, please stop by the school next week to register.

September 25, 2023

Good Afternoon

This is a short reminder of upcoming dates at Norton Elementary School.

Typically Orange t-shirt day falls on September 29.  Because our Picture Day is also scheduled that day, we are moving Orange t-shirt day to Thursday,  September 28.

New Brunswick schools are closed on Monday, October 3 in recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Day,

Our first NESPA meeting will be held at the school at 6 pm on Wednesday, September 27.  Volunteers are needed for this committee to enable us to do fundraising, hot lunch and milk programs and other activities for our students.

September 13, 2023

Good Afternoon

This is a message from Norton Elementary School with some important information for those parents who were unable to attend our Open House last night

On our new school calendar there are some dates to take note of:

Thursday 21 September is our annual Terry Fox Walk

Friday, 22 September is a Professional Learning day for staff and there are no classes that day

Friday 29 September is Picture Day

Monday, 2 October is Truth and Reconciliation Day and schools are closed

Monday, 9 October is Thanksgiving and schools are closed.

Friday, 13 October is Professional Learning day for staff and there are no classes that day

We have a new school policy for students who are late.  If your child arrives after 8:00 we ask that you bring them into the school and sign your child in.  Remember that being late or leaving even 15 min/day adds up to over 4 hours/month of lost learning time.  Remember, attendance really does matter.

We are looking for parent volunteers for our Norton Elementary School Parents group.  This group is valuable part of our school community and is responsible for fundraising activities to help our students throughout the year.  Our PSSC is also looking for volunteers.

Lastly, as many of you know, today is Mrs. Elder’s last day as she begins her retirement tomorrow.  We are so grateful for her time with us and wish her well in her next chapter.  That said, we ask for your patience over the next while as our new Admin Assistant learns the faces and routines of NES.  We ask that you try not to call between 1:30-2:00 with changes to afterschool arrangements as this is a particularly busy time of the day.   Again, your patience is greatly appreciated.

August 31, 2023

Good Afternoon, NES Parents

This is Linda Myers, principal of NES, welcoming you to a new and exciting school year.  A reminder that Tuesday, September 5 is the first day of school for half of our Kindergarten students and all of our Grades 1-5 students.  The second half of our Kindergarten students will attend on Wednesday, September 6 and everyone will join us on Thursday, September 7.

Just a reminder that particularly in these early days, students are excited to be back at school and parents may be anxious to be dropping their children off.   We ask that you are patient and take your time entering and exiting the parking lot, always on the lookout for one another.

We will be having our annual Open House this year from 6-7 pm on Tuesday, September 12.  This will be a great opportunity for you to come in and meet your child’s teachers face to face and hear about some of the great initiatives we have planned for the year.  Please note as well that during the first couple of weeks of school there will be a number of forms that need to be filled out and returned to school and these contain valuable information for the school to be aware of, so we ask that they be returned at your earliest convenience.   We would also ask that during the first week you send notes as to how your child will be going home so there is no confusion.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at 839-3000

We are looking forward to seeing you next week!   Until then, have a safe and happy weekend!
