Hi everyone,

It’s Lisa Jardine calling from Leatherbarrow Primary School with your Tuesday talk mail.

I am including the link for our October newsletter and calendar. Please take some time to read them so you will be aware what events are scheduled for this month and the dates on which they will happen.

In keeping our focus of being safe, this week is both Fire Safety Week and Bus Safety Week. All students will be learning fire safety, and our kindergarten students will be walking in their classroom bubbles to the Fire Station for an outdoor field trip on Wednesday.

On Friday afternoon, all bus students will participate in the district’s Dinobus bus safety program. All students will review bus safety rules and bus students will practice a bus evacuation on their own buses. As all our buses and all our bus students will be participating in this on Friday afternoon, buses may be a little earlier or a little later arriving home. It all depends on how quickly the bus drivers are able to complete the session. You may want to be at the bus stop 5 or 10 minutes earlier on Friday in case they are a little early. On the flip side, you may have to wait 5 or 10 minutes longer than usual if the session runs a little long. Transportation has asked that we please remind   parents to please be at the bus stop as drivers have been instructed not to drop off a student unless a parent or designated guardian is at the stop.

Next week is kindergarten registration week. If you know someone who has a child who should be coming to school next Fall, please tell them to contact the school about kindergarten registration.

Veterans from the Legion are having a poster contest. Information has been sent home with your child. If your child would like to participate, they can do the poster at home and send it back to the school. Posters and entry forms should be returned to our school by November 12.

Finally, I want to wish you and your family a very safe, and restful holiday weekend! These first weeks of school have been stressful for many. We have had to adapt to new Covid restrictions, climbing numbers of cases, exposures, and in some cases, the need to isolate. I am sincerely thankful for your support and partnership as we navigate these challenges together.  Happy Thanksgiving!
