This week, students will learn about argumentation and prepare for a debate. Class Debate.docxClass Debate.docx  . Students will read their independent novel for the first ten minutes of every class. 

Students will: 
Monday 
  • Examine two speeches and one advertisement and determine which persuasive techniques are used 
  • Understand the definitions and uses of parallelism, targeted questioning, and repetition
  • Craft a quick write that uses one of the above techniques  
Tuesday 
  • Review their debate assignment 
  • Generate topics for their debate 
Wednesday 
  • ​Vote using the Kahoot​ app/website for the topics that will be debated 
  • Understand that arguments come in two parts: 1) a warrant and 2) a claim 
Thursday 
  • Review and ask clarifying questions about the structure of Parliamentary debate 
  • Practice refutation or clashing with an opponents ideas 
  • Prepare for their lit chat 
Friday 
  • Participate in a literature chat 
  • Determine their partner, opponent, topic, and side for the debate
