Weekly Newsletter - January 31st

Good afternoon Seabee Community!

We are very much looking forward to having everyone back in the 'Hive' tomorrow!  Our lobbies are decorated and we've secured some special welcome back signs to kick off the semester in a positive way!  As was mentioned in previously we have had some homeroom changes and teachers have posted signs on their doors to help direct traffic.

We have arranged spaces for students to eat in the gymnasium, cafeteria, Study Center and Learning Commons.  With the Winter Plan of Covid regulations we are not able to permit students to eat in hallways.  Staff have been busy preparing areas in classrooms for students to eat and have access to food- we are very proud of the work they are doing to create classroom spaces that offer food for those who want/need it as well as a protocol for eating and drinking.

Course Changes for Semester 2

Students can now access their final marks for Semester 1 as well as their Semester 2 schedule through the PowerSchool Public Portal (https://sisasds.nbed.nb.ca/public).  Guidance and Administration have been working to reschedule any student who requires a course change.  Starting tomorrow guidance slips will be available for students and we will continue with course changes with our grade 12's moving through to our grade 10s as the week progresses.  Students will also receive copies of their Report Card and new schedule tomorrow during Homeroom.

COVID Protocols

The provincial School Winter Plan document provides a lot of details regarding protocols for schools.  Currently we are at Level 2, and the following measures will be in place:

  · Masks must be worn at all times except while sitting to eat and drink.  This is only permitted in the Cafeteria, Gymnasium, Support Center, Learning Commons and within classrooms.

  · Students must abide by masking protocols while on busses and within the school.  We have created a plan to ensure student and staff safety surround mask compliance, suspensions can be issued when students are not complying with the provincial mask policy.

  · Students are asked to self-screen at home each morning and should not attend school if they are symptomatic until they receive a negative test result.

  · If a resident of your household tests positive for Covid, a family isolation of 5 days (for those vaccinated) or 10 days (for those not fully vaccinated) will need to take place.

Bathrooms

Last semester, groups of students were often found gathering in washrooms – both during breaks and during class time.  While staff visit washrooms frequently and move students off to class, it was not enough of a deterrent for some students.  We need washrooms to be accessible and safe spaces for our students, so this semester we are focusing on decreasing the gatherings in washroom spaces and increasing a focus on being in the classroom.  Students need to be in classrooms during the school day – focusing on learning.

Administration

We are very fortunate to have Mrs. Sarah McMullin joining our administration team as our Acting Vice-Principal for Semester 2!  Sarah brings with her experience working at the district in a coaching and lead capacity as well as a large tool belt of professional development behind her!  Congratulations Sarah!

Have a lovely evening everyone!

Mrs. Carhart
