Mathieu LeClair Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser

The Second Annual Basketball Game and Birthday Bash will be held on Saturday, June 15th, 2013 at NBCC-SJ.  Last year the event was a great success and consisted of a bake sale, silent auction and a penny drive.  With the support of family, friends and the community, two very deserving Simonds High School students were each awarded a $1500 scholarship.

Mathieu passed away on February 28th, 2012.  He was born on June 16th, 1991 in Saint John, NB.  Mathieu was attending the Royal Military College of Canada and was a member of the college’s collegiate basketball team.  Mathieu loved life.  He had eyes that sparkled brightly and a beautiful smile.  He was an extremely social person and a gifted athlete.  From the age of 12 to 18, he was enrolled as an Air Cadet for the Royal Canadian Air Cadets Simonds Squadron #527 rising to the title of Warrant Officer II Band Leader and was selected for an International Cadet Exchange Program where he had the pleasure to travel to Washington, DC and Texas.  A 2009 graduate from Simonds High School, he was awarded an outstanding $80, 000 Cadet Scholarship from the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario.  In his senior year at Simonds High, he traveled with his classmates on an educational trip to Greece and Italy.  He played on both the Junior Varsity and the Varsity Basketball Teams.  He was a member of the School Band and a member of the Drama Club.  Mathieu was a tremendously bright and gifted young man who touched many lives.

On March 22nd, 2013, the Simonds High School Alumni held the First Annual Mathieu LeClair Memorial Basketball Tournament and raised an amazing $1049.75 for the Scholarship.
