Newsletter June 4 – June 8, 2018

 

Mission Statement: The mission of St. Malachy’s Memorial High School is to create an environment in which students excel academically and to provide a safe and supportive community which encourages growth and contribution to the larger community.

Vision Statement: St. Malachy’s Memorial High School is committed to educating the whole person.  Through a rigorous and comprehensive program of studies we prepare students academically, socially and morally to assume their places as conscientious, involved and contributing members of society.

I would like to begin this week’s newsletter congratulating the Girls Rugby Team on a fantastic season.  The girls lost a nail biter playing for the provincial banner on Friday night. We couldn’t be more proud of the team.  I would like to thank our long time coaches Kim and Troy Dixon and our faculty advisor Mrs. Stacey Currie for their passion and commitment.  Well Done!

 

Thank you to all students who ran for SRC Executive positions for the upcoming school year.  The following will represent St. Malachy’s next year: President – Julia Evans, Vice-President- Kaitlyn Keleher, Spirit Representative- Cate Dauphinee, Grade 12 Representative – Madison Leblanc, Grade 11 Representative –Cameron Horwood and Grade 10 Representative – Brett Baxter.   Secretary – Caroline Wilson, Finance and Promotions Team of Lauren Harris, Alivia Warr and Valerie Cullinan.  I would like to thank all of the students who put their name forward and offered for a position.

 

St. Malachy’s Booster Club online auction is in full swing.  Jump online at https://www.32auctions.com/stmauction2018 to check out the great items and services. All proceeds will be going towards upgrades to our gymnasium.

Therapeutic Paws of Canada therapy dogs will be here at St. Malachy’s on Friday, June 8th over the lunch hour. Only certified Therapeutic Paws of Canada therapy dogs are allowed on site for the STM visit on June 8th for insurance reasons. Please do NOT bring family dogs or pets.  Interested students will have an opportunity to come to the gymnasium during the visit for some pre-exam dog therapy.  I would like to thank Anna and Meredith Clinton, the SRC and Mrs. Janet Clinton for organizing this event.

Members of the SRC Executive will be contacting Parents/Guardians of Grade 11 students, the Class of 2019, for donations of sweets for the Graduation Reception for the Class of 2018, taking place after their Graduation Ceremony on June 21st.  The initial telephone call will be followed by a talk-mail message and a final telephone call informing you when and where to leave your contributions on June 21st.  In turn, the Class of 2020 will look after the reception for your sons/daughters.  On behalf of the Graduation Committee, I would like to thank you in advance for your continued support and generosity.

The annual St. Vincent’s Boys/ St. Malachy’s Alumni reunion dinner will take place Friday, June 15 – Bishop Bray Gymnasium – St. Malachy’s Memorial High School.  The evening will begin at 6:00p.m. with a Wine & Cheese social hour, followed by dinner at 7:00p.m.  Tickets are $45.00 ($20.00 for the members of the class of 2018) and are available at the front office

Schedule for the week:

Monday June 4th Regular Schedule - **8:00 am CLT meeting in the Learning Commons. **5:30 pm Grad Class BBQ – Grade 12 students will receive their yearbooks.

Tuesday June 5th – Regular Schedule - ** 11:00 am Grade Class Executive Speeches for 2018 -2019. ** 12:25 Ice Cream Treats ** 3:40 Staff Meeting in the Learning Commons.

Wednesday June 6th Regular Schedule ** 9:15 ESST meeting in the Guidance Center. 

Thursday June 7th – Regular Schedule – At the beginning of Period 3, Students who purchased a ticket to the “Saints Care Street Fair” will proceed out to Leinster Street for the fair. Students who did not purchase a ticket will attend class and be dismissed at their regular lunch time.

Friday June 8th – Regular Schedule – ** We will begin our annual Year End Assembly starting at approximately 9:30 a.m.  After the assembly we’ll proceed directly to whichever period coincides with the time of the day… i.e. if the assembly finishes at 10:30a.m., we’ll proceed to Period 2.  Regular Classes are scheduled for the remainder of the day.  ** 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm Therapeutic Paws of Canada will be at St. Malachy’s in the gymnasium.  Details for opportunities to interact with the dogs will be shared mid-week.  Thank you to Meredith, Anna, SRC and Janet Clinton for organizing this event.

Important Information for Grade 12 students:

Grad Class BBQ – Tomorrow June 4th – starting at 5:30 pm

Graduates interested in ordering a Grad Mug ($10), please see Mr. Gaudet by this Tuesday, June

Graduates planning to attend Safe Grad need to sign up with Mr. Gaudet by Tuesday, June 5th.

Final Transcripts to Post-secondary Institutions

Graduates are reminded to sign up at the Guidance Centre to have Final Transcripts in June forwarded to the post-secondary institution they will be attending in September.

Exams begin on Monday, June 11 and run through until Friday, June 15th.  Students are asked to be present in the room where they will are writing at 8:45 am for a 9:00 am start time.  Please consult the Exam Schedule for details.

**Please Note: Students in Grade 12 will pick-up their report cards on Wednesday, June 20th at 2:30p.m.

**Students in Grades 9, 10 and 11 will pick-up their report cards, from their homeroom teacher on Friday, June 22 at 9:00a.m.  Registration for Summer School will take place on Friday, June 22 in the Guidance Center.  For details pertaining to Summer School, please see Ms. Craft and Mrs. Currie in the Guidance Center.
