Good afternoon,

It was announced this afternoon that all health regions in New Brunswick will be moving to the Orange Phase tonight.  Our school Operational Plan is available on our website under COVID (hvhs.nbed.nb.ca) and details additional measures in place during this phase.

Schools remain open and teaching continues during Orange - and students should be in attendance.  While teachers post some work to Teams, instruction takes place in-person during days that cohorts are assigned to attend.  Students remain responsible for all work assigned – so the in-person support of staff and classmates is important for both students’ academic progress and their mental health.

If a student or a member of the household is immunocompromised, families should contact the school to determine the best arrangements for ensuring education continues.  The definition of immunocompromised persons is found at the end of this email (and is taken from the provincial Alert Level: Orange document).

Returning to Orange means some important changes for us:

  • All students and staff must be masked at all times except while eating.  Previously, masks could be removed while seated in class – this is not the case in our current phase.
  • Masks are to be worn in all public spaces – this includes all school property.  This includes outside spaces at school.
  • Wind Instruments are no longer permitted.
  • School sports now move to Skills and Drills only.
  • Physical Education classes must limit any shared equipment.  Masks are not required during Physical Education classes under direction of the teacher.

If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to administration:
