Weekly Newsletter

We know these are challenging times for students, families and staff.  We appreciate your willingness to work together as protocols continue to be updated throughout New Brunswick schools.

Updates to provincial protocols in schools

On Friday the province announced changes to some protocols to slow the spread of Covid-19 in New Brunswick.  At the high school level the major changes are the following:

  • Physical Education classes will take place outside whenever possible.  If they must be held indoors, masks will be required.
  • Large gatherings such as assemblies will not be held.
  • Beginning on Wednesday, any student wishing to participate in extra-curricular or intramural clubs, sports, or activities must provide proof of double-vaccination.  Students with a medical exemption will also be permitted to participate.

Visitors to the school must remain masked at all times and unnecessary visits should be kept to a minimum.

Our plan for collecting vaccination information for those wishing to participate in extra-curricular and intramural activities has been submitted to the district for approval.  We will communicate those details as soon as possible.

Please do not provide vaccination information to individual coaches, teacher supervisors etc..  We will be using a centralized process to ensure there is consistency and to avoid students/families needing to provide the proof of vaccination to multiple staff members.

Covid Vaccination Clinic

ASD-S in partnership with Public Health will be hosting upcoming COVID vaccine clinics at several high schools.  Our clinic at Harbour View High School will be the morning of Thursday, September 23rd.

Students can receive their first or second dose of COVID vaccine. Consent forms will be available in the school office or can be found at Consent for COVID-19 vaccines.

High school students may sign their own consent forms. Please inform your child if you do not want them to receive the vaccine.

To receive the vaccine at a school clinic, the student must not have received any other vaccine within 14 days and it must be 28 days since their first dose if they are receiving their second COVID dose. Once an individual receives a COVID vaccine, they should wait 28 days before receiving another vaccine.

If your child is receiving their second COVID dose, they are asked to please bring their proof of first vaccination.

Families or students may call the school (658-5359) or students can stop into the office to let us know if they will be receiving the vaccine, and if they prefer Pfizer or Moderna, so that Public Health can be aware of quantities in advance.
