Course Selections for 2022-2023

Homeroom teachers have begun the process of distributing Course Registration Forms to students.  Over the coming weeks, all students will receive a presentation from Guidance or Administration to review course options and seek clarification for questions they might have.

Registration Forms and some supporting documents have also been posted to our school website (hvhs.nbed.nb.ca) under the Course Registration 2022 menu.

The registration forms are designed so that when you scroll over a course name a textbox will appear with the course description.  As well, many courses have videos (linked through the registration form) where courses are described in more detail by either a past student or a teacher.  It is worth spending some time with your student and reviewing this information.

Each Homeroom teacher also has information from NBCC and UNB regarding pre-requisites for their post-secondary programs.

Registration forms do not need to be returned until April 19 – so we encourage students and families to take time to carefully review the options available, and to reach out to Guidance with any questions.

Parent-Teacher

Parent-Teacher meetings will take place on Wednesday, April 13 (4:00 – 7:00pm) and Thursday, April 14 (9:00 – 11:00am).  Parents/Guardians will have the choice of in-person or Teams appointments, but they will continue to be booked ahead of time using this link:  Harbour View High School (office365.com)

Graduation Events

We know families of Grade 12 students are looking ahead at dates for end-of-year celebrations.  The Grad Class Executive held an assembly this afternoon to provide details on some upcoming events along with announcing that there will be a school-organized prom once again!  It will take place on Tuesday, June 21 at the Saint John Marina.  More details will be sent out in the coming weeks.

The Grad Class was asked to vote on their preferred option for a Graduation ceremony and they chose to once again use the outside format from the previous two years.  Feedback from graduates and families from the past two years has been overwhelmingly positive – and the format also provides the opportunity for a larger number of family members to take part in the diploma celebration.  This will take place on Thursday, June 23.  Details to follow.

Immunizations

On Monday, May 2, Public Health will be at HVHS to deliver vaccines to Grade 9 students (meningitis and chicken pox) as well as Covid-19 vaccines for any student wishing and eligible to receive them.  Consent forms will be sent home in the coming weeks.  The message below provides details from Public Health:

Students in grade 9 will be able to receive their recommended routine immunizations for meningitis and chicken pox at a school clinics being held Monday, May 2. Students do not require the chicken pox vaccine if they have already received two doses of the vaccine or have had chicken pox, as confirmed by blood work.

The COVID-19 vaccine will also be made available to students wishing to receive their first, second or booster dose. To receive the second dose, you must have received your first dose no less than 28 days prior. To receive the booster dose, you must have received your second dose no less that 5 months prior.

Students can receive the routine vaccines regardless of the date of their last COVID-19 vaccine, and they can be administered the same day as the COVID-19 vaccine.

For individuals aged 12+  who received their first two COVID-19 vaccines but tested positive for COVID-19 before they received the booster dose, it is recommended to book your booster dose if it has been at least 5 months since the last dose and at least 3 months after you tested positive.

Consent forms must be completed and returned indicating yes or no whether the student will receive the vaccine. High school students may provide consent for themselves. Please inform your child if you do not want them to receive the vaccine(s).
